Lips brushed against my cheek and words were whispered against my skin. My eyes fluttered open. His eyes were on my face as we lay an inch apart. He looked concerned but I didn't understand why. His words made me frown in confusion. I didn't remember crying, though it explained the tight skin that felt a little sticky. My thoughts drifted as I tried to figure out what had occurred. My only explanation was I must have had a nightmare. He didn't look convinced but let the subject drop.
Fingers brushed my hair behind my ear. I studied his face with a small smile, memorizing every little detail. My fingers traced the curves of his body. We just laid there- committing each other to memory all over again. Eventually he had to get up for his shower. With great reluctance, I tumbled out of bed. With barely any thought I walked to the kitchen. Tightening my robe, I began brewing a pot of coffee. My eyes glanced around our kitchen as I once again tried to remember what had made me so sad.
Arms wrapped around me and loving words were whispered in my ear. A smile danced upon my lips as I turned to him. His piercing eyes held my gaze captive. Words of adoration tumbled from my lips before I could stop them. My eyes darted to the coffee pot, avoiding his gaze. His rich, warm chuckle drew my gaze back. He had that fond smile on his lips again as he gazed at me. I couldn't help but be captivated by the man in front of me.
He returned my sentiments with fond words. His fingers trailed along my jaw before he leaned in. His lips captured mine in a soft embrace. His hands warmed my skin as they gently rested on my hips. We let our lips linger for a few precious seconds before pulling away. His chin rested upon my head as he held me. We only broke apart when the coffee was ready. Silently, we made ourselves a cup. His face was serene and content. The atmosphere was peaceful- a rare thing for us. It made me wonder where the others were. Noticing the quiet, he voiced my thoughts with an amused look. I shrugged, happy to have this rare moment of peace. We both knew it wouldn't last very long though.
