A/N: This entire chapter is going to be in Clara's Myron's POV, enjoy! Also another note just to put it out there Clara was about 12 when her dad was killed in action. Clara starts college in 1953 where the Greasers and Socs society was a huge thing
I rubbed my hands together, taking a deep breath as I looked at the towering gates of my new school. College, the place every high schooler dreams of going, perhaps not if one's a greaser. But that's beside the whole point right now. As much as I looked forward to going to college, I dreaded it. Perhaps because I was a black woman and everywhere I went people shot me dirty looks, as though I should have been back with my ancestors and kept as a slave instead of furthering my education.
However it's not as if dirty looks were going to stop me in my tracks of becoming a scientist. Yes a scientist, as boring as that decision may be to some I find the subject of scientific findings to be extremely intriguing. Shaking my head of my thoughts I pushed open the gates, it swung open fairly easily if not for a few squeaks, which was to be expected considering how old this place is. I took another deep breath as I ventured in, I took another deep breath as I ventured in, lugging my baggage along with me when I felt a tap on my shoulder, I looked behind me only to see a white female looking at me w ith a smile on her face, "Hello!" she greeted me warmly, "That baggage looks a little heavy, do you perhaps need help with that?" she asked.
I was in shock; Why was a white person talking to me? The sounds of the campus seemed to be distance away as I looked at her. she didn't have an ulterior motives did she? I felt bad for doubting her but in times like this, when can I really be sure? She looked at me, waving her hands in front of my face slightly.
"My name's Marion Andrews, what's yours?" I snapped myself out of my own dubious thoughts. if she's willing to tell me her name like that, why not give her a chance? "My name's Clara Myron, pleasure to meet you" I said, smiling hesitantly as I extended my hand for a handshake, which she gladly accepted, she took my baggage from me without hesitation, "Come on then, I'll show you to your dorms! Since you're my new room mate it's something I should do."
She walked a few steps ahead of me, showing me the way all the while chattering about the place, she too was new only moving in a few hours before me, she was aiming for a degree to be a doctor, her reasons being that she wanted to save lives and make a difference. We stopped outside a door as she unlocked it, leaving my baggage inside. "Here we are!" she said, happily clapping her hands together
I smiled nervously at her, she's a little chatty, but at the very least she's nice. but at least my new friend is nice. Going in after her, I looked around the room admiring it's view. it was a simple yet beautiful room, I had to admit. The view of the campus was rather refreshing in an odd sense. I heaved my bags to the bed opposite Marion, and began unpacking most of my belongings. "So what are you going to major in?" Marion asked me looking at me in interest. I got the feeling that she was studying me. "Oh, me? I plan to be a scientist. Science has always been one of my favourite subjects. that, and maths, along with history, and I would love to help society in the advancement of scientific theory." I said, laughing nervously. I was starting to ramble a bit due to anxiousness.
Fortunately for me, she didn't mind that one bit as she looked at me, smiling, her blonde locks framing her face as she pushed up her glasses. "Oh!" she snapped her fingers in realization, "You haven't gotten your class schedule yet, we should go get it." she said, pulling me along to the office. She really was rather energetic and full of life; I couldn't help feeling happier around her. she really was influential, I think I might enjoy college after all.
