ANUSHKA
When Anushka reached home, her heavy heart and lazy feet dragged her towards the foyer. She didn't know what was the purpose of anything right now? She didn't know whether God was punishing her for her sins or whether life was screwing with her.
She believed in devils but she had never believed in God before. If there was a God, this world would be a happy place.
Why would God hurt the ones he created? She didn't understand this concept.
She walked slowly and was just about to open the door to the main hall when her step mother's voice stopped her.
"Anushka, your father wants to speak to you."
At the sound of her voice, she turned around and saw her step mom in all her glory.
A small frown graced her face when she saw her step daughter look like a very normal girl.
A distressed normal girl at that. She wasn't dressed classy, she wasn't dressed in a short skirt or even in jeans, she had sweatpants on with a black top. Her hair was tied in a pony tail and she still had her sunglasses on. Her nose was red.
She had been crying.
Her mom moved forward, holding her hand tightly in hers, "Are you okay?" She questioned softly. Anushka gulped in her state of numbness, then nodded.
"Mhmm," She murmured, then reached out for her hand, moving it away from her step mother's and ran upstairs.
She didn't want to visit her father but she knew he would visit her room if she didn't go to his office and she didn't want that.
She didn't want to be near anyone right now.
She knocked twice on her father's door, then walked inside. Her dad sat on his chair, scanning through some files. "You're back." He stated. It wasn't a question, just a statement.
He analyzed the situation his daughter was in.
"Were you sleeping?" He questioned. She shook her head.
"No, I just-" Her voice came out hard and a little scratchy, her father frowned even more thinking she was very tired or just about to be sick after a long flight.
"Sit, I know you're tired and I'll let you go soon but this is important." Anushka nodded shakily and then sat opposite to her dad.
"I want you to be truthful to me, do you have someone in your life?" Her father started off and Anushka's heart beat fast.
Did he know? God, she didn't want to lose another person in her life. Her father would never look at her the same way if he came to know all about it.
She shook her head.
"No." She replied. It wasn't exactly a lie, she had nobody.
"Good, then I don't think you'll have a problem with meeting someone that I have chosen for you."
She hadn't responded then, when she heard her father. She figured her dad was either joking, or she was so tired of hearing surprising shit every single day that she didn't bother responding or even feeling like she needed to react.
"Chosen for me?" Anushka questioned grumbling under her breath. She took off her glasses and her father saw the blood red eyes, the swollen eyelids and the grief stricken face.
"Are you alright? What's wrong with your eyes?" Her father asked her instead and she sighed, trying to stop her eyes from watering again.
She was tired of crying. She had cried on the whole flight not giving a fuck about who said what but now, she had to stop herself for a few minutes.
