"I'm not a kid anymore!! I can do it!!"

"You're not going to be like us, (Y/N). End of story."

"That's not fair!!! Why am I "

"Because I said so!! We know what's best for you, (Y/N). Deal with it. I am not going to keep having this conversation with you."

Hoodie must've played their dispute over and over again in his head. Each time, he was able to come up with a better resolve...

The darkness of their shared room weighed heavy on him, like it was pushing him further into the mattress. He sat up and the slight shift beside him almost made him jump.

"Am I wrong?" He whispered into the stillness. His question fell flat, almost answering itself.

"Would you still love me if I said yes?" Masky whispered back. He turned just enough to stare at Hoodie over his shoulder and despite the dark, his eyes flashed with what could only be described as amusement. "I will say, that I'm proud of you for not turning it into one of your usual screaming matches." He added through a fighting smile, "Bravo."

Hoodie huffed and dragged his fingers through his hair, "You think we should let her do what we do? Kill people? Hunt them? I don't want her to turn into "

"A monster." Masky sighed.

"I just...She's got her whole life ahead of her." Hoodie murmured, but Masky could hear the slight tremble in his voice and he sat up too, "I don't want her to have our life, Tim. And I know that the world is ten times worse than what we have to deal with, but..." He shook his head, "This isn't it. The forest. Us."

"I know." Masky hushed him softly, "I know...(Y/N) wants something she knows nothing about. But she's young and like every other kid on the planet, she hates school. I'm sure that's all this is...her trying to get out of going. Jeff started out when he was what? Thirteen?"

"Jeff's a maniac."

"Yeah. (Y/N) isn't." Masky caught Hoodie's fingers, bringing each one to his lips, "But we can't decide her life for her, Brian. We can now...But that won't last forever. If one day she turns out to be a killer, then I think the only thing we can do is teach her everything we know. She'll be ready. Right?"

Hoodie wrapped an arm around Masky and pressed his nose into messy curls, smelling the gentle wafts of strawberry shampoo and sleep. "Yes." He kissed his hair, "I still love you."

Masky chuckled in his hold and pulled them both back down to their awaiting pillows, "Would you honestly be surprised though?" He lifted the warm covers over their mess of tangled limbs, "(Y/N) was born through magic and god knows what else...and she's being raised by a bunch of crazy people. Doesn't exactly classify as normal."

Hoodie rolled his eyes, but he was content. As long as (Y/N) had a chance to live a real life, he'd be fine...proving that once again, Masky was right.

"You're not coming with me."

"Travel alone during the day...when you can see. It's my world at night and I know what's out there." BEN shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans, "I'm not stopping you, but you're not going alone. Not yet." His blond hair glowed bright despite the darkness, sweeping over his eyes when he flipped it away.

(Y/N) stared out into the blackness. The trees looked taller somehow, painted with the night as if to warn her to stay home where it was safe. She almost wanted to. But she had to prove a point first. Well, that's what she was telling herself as she sat on the railing of her balcony.
