As the brunette agent walked past his office, she knew that something was wrong. She knocked on the open door to get his attention. He said, " Did you need something Prentiss?"

At this point, she now stood in front of his desk. She decided to just come out with her question. She looked at him and said," Is everything alright?"

He sighed, " I have to stay late tonight and I have no one to watch Jack. Jessica called and said that she is too sick to watch him."

Emily smiled slightly before she said, " I'll watch him."

Aaron spoke, " Are you sure?"

She nodded, " I'd love to watch him,"

She paused to check the time, " My paperwork is done, so I can go pick him up from Kindergarten in two hours and watch him until you're done."

He said, "He'd like that, the extra key is under the turtle. He'll show you where it is. Thank you for doing this Emily."

She nodded, "It's really no problem."

She noticed that he had called her by her first name but chose to ignore it. She assumed that it was just a slip of the tongue.  She stated, " I'll let you know when I leave to get him."

With that being said, she turned and walked out of his office.

Before she knew it, she was waiting for Jack almost awkwardly with the parents waiting for their children. A smile came across her lips when she saw him walk out of his classroom with the other students. She got down to his level before he ran over to hug her. She hugged him back before he said excitedly, "Hi Miss Emmy!"

He quickly looked around before he said, "Where's Daddy or Aunt Jessica?"

Still down at his level, she said, " Aunt Jessica is sick and your dad has to work a while longer. So I'm going to take you home and stay with you until your dad is done with work."

She paused, " We can play with your toys, watch a movie, or whatever you want. I can make you mac and cheese for dinner. Does that sounds like fun?"

He nodded, "Yeah!"

She smiled and stood up from her squatting position, " Are you ready to go home?"

Jack nodded once more before he started to walk with her. She reached down and took his Spiderman backpack before slinging one of the straps over her shoulder. He reached up to grab her hand as they walked out of the school. Emily smiled as she felt him grab her hand. She gently squeezed his small hand.

Two hours later, Emily was dishing up the freshly cooked macaroni and cheese into two bowls. She saw the young Hotchner come back to the kitchen. She said, "Did you wash your hands?"

He held out his hand to show her and said, " Yes."

He noticed that the bowls in her hands, "Is dinner done?"

She nodded, " Yes it is buddy. Let's go sit down at the table."

About the middle of dinner, Jack looked at her and spoke, "Emmy, can we watch Up before I have to go to bed?"

She smiled, "Of course we can kiddo."

Soon enough they were done eating. She was going to quickly do the dishes while he went to put in the movie and put on his pajamas. She was putting the last dish away when Jack had made it back into the living room. She walked out of the kitchen and sat down next to him on the couch. He leaned into her side as the movie began.

After the movie, they were in his room and she had just finished reading him a book. He looked at her with his big brown eyes and said, "Emmy, will you sing to me? Mommy used to sing to me. Aunt Jessica does sometimes too."

She couldn't tell him no, "What do you want me to sing?"

He thought for a second before he said, "Anything."

She quickly thought of a song to sing to him, "Okay, Jack-Jack."

She sang loud enough for only the two of them to hear, even though there was no one else in the house.

And now I'm all alone again
Nowhere to turn, no one to go to
Without a home, without a friend
Without a face to say "Hello" to
But now the night is near
And I can make-believe he's here

Sometimes I walk alone at night
When everybody else is sleeping
I think of him and then I'm happy
With the company I'm keeping
The city goes to bed
And I can live inside my head

On my own
Pretending he's beside me
All alone
I walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I lose my way I close my eyes
And he has found me

In the rain the pavement shines like silver
All the lights are misty in the river
In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me forever and forever

And I know it's only in my mind
That I'm talking to myself and not to him
And although I know that he is blind
Still I say, there's a way for us

I love him
But when the night is over
He is gone
The river's just a river
Without him
The world around me changes
The trees are bare and everywhere
The streets are full of strangers

I love him
But every day I'm learning
All my life
I've only been pretending
Without me
His world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known

I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own

Surprised that she made it through the song without breaking, she wasn't expecting what she heard from the young boy. He yawned before he spoke, "You have a pretty voice Emmy."

He paused, " Daddy loves you too."

This silenced her but only for a moment before she stood up and fixed his covers. She bent down and kissed his head, "Good night buddy. Sweet dreams."

He yawned, "Good night Emmy."

She plugged in the night light before heading out of the room and turning off the light and leaving the door open slightly. She wondered down the hall and sat down on the couch. She flipped through the channels on the TV before she found something to watch.

A hour later Hotch arrived home. He heard the TV on and noticed a sleeping Emily on the couch. He went down the hall to check on Jack who was also asleep. On he way back, he grabbed a spare blanket. He covered Emily with it once he reached her. He bent down and kissed her head. He said, "Good night Emily."
