CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Swayam drove on the street trying to be careful all the way but his mind was just not listening to him. His mind wandered off to Rey's cabin. The revelations had shaken him inside. How can someone stoop so low? How can someone be so selfish? So disgusting? The truth had come like a slap on his face and it stung bad. So bad.

Will he ever be able to trust anyone again? All his ethics, his beliefs everything had suddenly gone in drain. Was Sharon right when all these years she rebuked him for not being the cunning shrewd on the professional front? Was he nothing but a fool when he told her that trust did matter even in the professional world? He felt like a fool to himself. So damn stupid.
Anger was building inside him as he recalled Rey's every word.

Flashback to Rey's cabin

The room had felt silent for a while and the silence had now started to get heavy. Rey knew it was difficult for Swayam to talk about everything and so he didn't budge him till he felt he was ready to talk further.
"After you removed your shirt what was she left in?" Rey asked casually while Swayam raised his head and frowned at his straight question, which he found disgusting coming from Rey's mouth.

Rey sighed. He understood Swayam's apprehensions but he was a lawyer, for him all this was normal and right now he was in no mood to justify things to Swayam. All he needed right now were confirmations. Confirmations which can prove his theory right, which can justify everything he has found out.
"All that you can see in this picture." Swayam said feeling gross at having to talk such shit.
"Brazers and shorts you say?" Rey asked glancing at the picture and Swayam nodded.
"Okay let's move on then! Tell me what happened next!" Rey changed the topic sensing Swayam's growing discomfort.
"Just when I freed her from my wet shirt, I sensed her coming back to senses slowly. Frankly, all this while I was praying for her to come back to senses but when she actually did I almost panicked. I had no idea how she was going to react but I had a feeling it was going to be bad." Swayam said and taking a deep breath continued.
"She slowly opened her eyes and the first thing I saw in her eyes was fear and horror. But as soon as she saw me I think she felt relieved, but then her condition in front of me dawned upon her and she was conscious."
"Did you try to explain?"
"She was very scared. The first thing she asked me was about Gaurav, her boyfriend. She was shivering out of fear or out of cold I couldn't gauge. . . But she started crying suddenly. She felt helpless I think."
"I explained her that I saw everything and that she was safe. I was there on the right time. As soon as I clarified everything she was relieved and. . ."
"And that is when she hugged you and you consoled her!"
"Yes!" Rey said and Swayam nodded sighing deeply.
"And even after all this while Pia wasn't there!" Rey asked frowning.
"No! She came after like fifteen minutes and then I made up a story that how I found her on street and I didn't know her and did everything just on humanitarian grounds. And by god's grace she understood and allowed Amaira and me to stay for the night. She provided her with clothes, blankets and Pia and me we both took care of her because she kept fainting through the night. " Swayam completed and Rey offered him a glass of water rising from his seat and coming beside him.
"Swayam! You know what? There aren't and there cannot be people as brave as you are! So much had happened, you had to lose out so many things and you did without complaining, without questions. Its just so hard to find people like you and I am so glad and proud to have a friend like you. Everything will pay off when Sharon will know the entire truth." Rey said looking at Swayam.
Swayam tried to hold back the tears that were forming in his eyes and he ran his hands on his face and sighed. "I hope so Rey! I hope so!"
They both smiled at each other and hugged felling good about each other. Feeling good about having a non-judgmental friend in their lives.
"Swayam as good as you are it's a shame that it's because of your goodness that you are in this problem today because the world around is pathetic and does disgusting things to you. You are sensible Swayam. You do understand the faade people put on most of the time, but this time the faade looked so real that you couldn't distinguish between the two."
"Rey I cannot understand even a word of yours!" Swayam looked confused. He wanted Rey to come to the point because he had no interest in solving puzzles right now.
"Swayam, it's you who thinks Pia wasn't there all the time when you were struggling with Amaira till she actually came helping you. But you are wrong. You see these pictures, the pictures which turned your life upside down. . . These pictures were clicked by no one else but Pia." Rey said and Swayam watched him stunned.
"What? Pia? Are you crazy? Why would she do all this? What benefit will she get by doing all this shit?" Swayam questioned. There was no way on earth he could believe that out of all the people his personal assistant can be the reason why his life upturned.
