The Cinematic Orchestra - To Build A Home.
Rocky.
Rain slept happily on the plane beside me, her small hands encased in mine. Her shallow breathing was a soothing noise. I still couldn't shake what her dad had said, surely, he didn't actually mean it.
"What's bothering you?" Faith ask from beside me, I glanced at her, noticing her scar. If that's what Rain's dad did to her, what would he do to me?
"Just afraid that this is all a dream," I admitted. Part of this was true. What if I woke up and Rain wasn't in my arms?
All these 'what ifs' we're making head spin, I rose my free hand up and held the bridge of my nose.
"You're lying to me," she snapped. I glanced at her again, Riker and I were the same when we lied. Dammit.
"I guess," I breathed. "I guess Rain's dad scared me a bit."
Faith sighed and slumped backward in her chair, she thinks I'm stupid...great.
"Same," she admitted causing me to turn completely in my chair to face her.
"What?" I questioned. She glanced at me and squeezed Riker's hand, he was dozy also.
"I know what he's like, I don't want anything to happen to either of you," she explained, her gaze flickering to Rain's sleeping face.
"Well," I began, laying back into my chair. "He isn't touching her again."
Faith quickly dropped the subject and fell asleep. This is going to be a long flight.
//
"Rocky," I heard a small voice whisper and firm hands shake my shoulder. I grumbled groggily.
"We're here," Rain announced. Did I fall asleep? How long was I asleep? I opened my eyes and Riker and Rain were sitting in front of me.
" The others already got off to stretch their legs, hurry up," Riker ordered, kicking my ankle.
"Yeah, whatever," I spat. It was upsetting me that Riker and I had grown so cold toward one another. Ross and I were always the closest but Riker and I had never been mean to each other.
"Come on," Rain smiled, reaching out her hand. She was so innocent in ways I could never understand, she's been through hell and back and escaped with very little scars. She was truly beautiful.
"I would kiss you but, I just woke up," I chuckled. She scrunched her nose and chuckled. That sound made my heart swell and all I could do was look at her, loosing her has made me appreciate her so much more. The way her mouth curves when she smiles, or the way her ears turn red when she's angry , the little things that make up a beautiful girl, my beautiful girl.
"What are you looking at?" She demanded, playfully pushing my shoulder.
"You," I whispered. Her smile faded and she scanned my face.
"How did I get so lucky?" She asked, more herself than me.
Riker cleared his throat, I snapped my head towards him.
"We'll be home soon guys, you can be all," he made awkward hand gestures before continuing. "When we get home, okay?, let's go."
I rolled my eyes and returned my focus to Rain, wiggling my eyebrows. She laughed loudly, quickly covering her mouth.
" Don't do that," I scowled, removing her hand from her mouth, walking toward the exit of the plane, with her as close as possible to me.
"Do what?"
"Hide stuff about yourself, your laugh is amazing, don't be ashamed." I kissed her on the nose, the flight attendant scoffed disapprovingly. Rain had to pull me away from him but I flipped my finger at him anyway, asshole.
"I'm so glad to be home!" Willow praised as we walked toward a cab, I was carrying whatever was left of Rain and I's luggage, she protested when I took all of the bags, she didn't need to strain herself right now.
"You can say that again," Rydel laughed, stretching her arms behind her head.
"I'm going to sleep for a week," Ryland admitted.
Rain was silent and I knew her dad was on her mind.
"Hey," I whispered, wrapping my arms around her from behind. She fit nicely into my hold, leaning against my chest so my nose was in her hair, I inhaled her hypnotic scent, she was like a drug, I needed her.
"What's worrying my Rain?" I asked as she traced my scars with her finger.
"My dad," she said. I chuckled against her head.
"I knew it, babe, he isn't going to hurt us now, they're going to let him rot in that cell," I assured her, she stiffened at my harsh words.
"Please, don't worry, it makes me worry," I pleaded.
"Okay," she chocked, her voice thick with emotion.
"Thank you," I sighed, kissing her on the cheek, she smiled and I thanked God for making such a beautiful smile.
As the cabs arrived we split up, it would cost more, but there was so many of us. Once we arrived home we unloaded our bags and headed up the driveway. It seems like years ago when we pulled out in our bus to go on a road trip. I placed my hand on the cold handle and hesitantly pushed the key into the lock, twisting it easily.
"Home sweet home," I sighed happily, pushing the door open.
There were numerous celebratory hoots and cheers echoing through the house.
"Nap time," Ross announced, numerous people agreed, including Rain.
"Come with?" She asked.
"I'll be up soon," I promised, she frowned slightly, I kissed her quickly,, wrapping my arms around her waist, her hands slithered around my neck, grasping lightly at my hair.
"I love you," I breathed into the kiss.
"I love you too," she replied.
"Get some sleep," I urged, pulling away, although I would kiss her, every minute, every second, of every day if I could. She nodded and went to bed, I watched her walk up the stairs before going to back door to have a smoke I promised myself I would never start but it was better than cutting, I think.
I sat by myself on the back step, watching the sun go down over the horizon.
"Till tomorrow," I whispered, lighting a cigarette.
"Though you didn't smoke," Ross called from behind me, startling me.
"I do now," I shrugged.
"Welcome to the dark side," he chuckled joining me on the step.
"Hey Rocky," Ross said after a few moments.
"Yeah Ross?"
"I'm going to ask Willow to marry me..."
