The MotherLand

Here's a short poem I wrote when I was about 14 years old. I had a rocky relationship with my mother and father and my half brother. It really had an impact on all of the relationships I had with them so I wrote something to kind of ... create a better place for all of us. Being half African American and half Pacific Islander I decided to take it back to my roots !

Enjoy.

I wish I had a different mother
I wish I was closer to my brother
My father I never really knew,
Only faded memories at the age of two.
Does thy family tree wither away ,
take me back to my roots across the seas
So faraway the naked eye cannot see
the place of holy matrimony and golden truth,
the motherland , full of hope and proof.

My mother I did not like
My brother out of sight
My father , well you know how that goes
Throughout the nation around the globe
Fatherless children bare with no rope
Top soil fallen to a mope ,
Homes destroyed so they flee to a boat
A long journey up a head
To the motherland land ,straight a head

For now it is time , don't you see
To gather up all of thee
Plant a new  seed that we would sew
A family tree sure to grow
Bring back my brother and my father
A mother reborn with her daughter
Now you see if you slaughter the roots
The tree will fall
But not the motherland, the best place of all
