“Well, wasn’t that just a great, their food was delicious, too bad we couldn’t eat more,” Dad smiles as we walk back up the road.

“Yea, great,” I roll my eyes.

“So, did you see that guy, that young one that kept glaring at you? He’s seems like quite the guy,” Dad nudges.

“Who wouldn’t notice, that was hardcore glare, I think everyone but Victoria noticed,” I laugh, he was so jealous it was pathetic.

“Well, I hope you don’t become good friends with him,” Dad smirks.

“I don’t plan on it,” I shake my head.

“Good, I think I’ll make his family our next prey,” Dad mentions, his eyes red from the thought of fresh human blood.

“I think we should get the family we just visited, they seem… lovable,” Mother smirks, looking at me with hate in her eyes.

“Well, if that’s what you want, I’ve got the invitation, but you and Shadow have-”

“I have an invitation, don’t worry about it,” I smile at Mother and she snarls at me.

“Great, I was planning to go hunting for your birthday, Shadow, but since we haven’t done this in a while there’s a full moon in two weeks and you know what happens to humans on a full moon,” he smiles to himself.

“Their blood goes crazy,” I smile to myself while licking my lips, and for a quick second a forget about Victoria’s pretty face and replace it with a pale, blood drained one staring back at me. But only for a second!

“Ahh,” Mother sighs, “even mental images can satisfy me.”

“That’s because you’re a simpleminded cold hearted bit-”

“Shadow, what has gotten into you?” Dad cuts me off with a quick hand to my throat.

“My self-respect,” I chough as I stop in my tracks.

“You can sleep outside, Shadow,” Mother smiles and I smile back.

             “It’s an honor,” I wink.

“That’s enough you two, you act like you’re brother and sister, bickering all the time,” Dad sighs.

“How could you make such a comparison, we’re not even related,” Mother rolls her eyes.

“Oh, how I wish,” I mumble as I make my way toward the back yard.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Mother yells.

“Where else?” I yell back as I turn around and do the come-at-me-bro threat.

“Keep your filthy human hands off my stuff!” Mother hisses and I stop unlocking the gate.

             “What?” I laugh in disbelief.

“Elissa, get inside,” Dad says through clenched teeth as he pushes her inside.

“I’m not human, what’s wrong with her?” I shake my head at Dad as he walks toward me.

“You’ll find out soon enough,” Dad shakes his head sadly as he quickly turns on his heel and heads for the front door like he changed his mind.

“Oh great, secrets,” I mumble as I throw my hands up in defeat and jump for the first floor roof.

I silently climb through my bedroom window and peel the sheets off my bed and wrap them around my pillow. I grab my phone which is charging on my floor next to my laptop, which I take as well.

I climb back out through my window and quickly make my bed. Unlocking my phone I text Jack a quick hello and wait. He replies not even a minute later, which is one of my favourite things about him. I stare at the nights sky, thinking about what Dad said about our next prey. I have two weeks to figure something out. I can’t just tell them to run, to leave the town. They seem rich, but I don’t think they’ll just sell and buy a new house, unless…

“Hello?” I answer my phone as it vibrates in my hand.

“You didn’t answer so I was scared you were with someone else!” Jack sniffs and I can’t help but laugh.

“You sent that text not even 30 seconds ago,” I laugh.

“It takes an average texter to reply ‘sup’ in less than 5 seconds, explain that!” He laughs.

“Dude, how do you know these things, is it your hobby to Google pointless facts?”

“I just know these things. So, what’s up, do anything cool today?”

“I got a tour around town with this super-hot girl, and went to her place for a dinner party,” I smile to myself.

“I knew there was someone else! What’s her name, what does she look like?” Jack says in a girly snobby tone.

“Her name is Victoria, and it’s like…. A goddess, I can’t explain it. 5”5, silky black hair, bright green eyes, and an amazing figure, not to mention her nice personality, but she’s sort of an airhead.” I reply quietly, hoping no one is listening in.

“Hmm, she sounds too good to be true, you’re either over exaggerating, or she’s taken,” Jack says matter-of-factly.

             “She’s taken,” I sigh.

“Ahh, girl troubles, I remember when I was your age, but you old man has a few tips, wanna hear?” Jack says excitedly.

“Sure, what can be worse than a father’s advice?” I smile.

“Show her… what you are… made of, Sugar.” Jack says slowly into the phone.

“Jack, sometimes you amaze me,” I laugh, folding in on myself. I love Jack, no homo, he just knows how to lift the mood and make anyone laugh. I bet he’d get a few giggles out of my Mother.

“By my awesome advice? I know, no need to tell me,” Jack says seriously.

“Well, it’s getting late and I have school in the morning, I’ll call you again tomorrow,” I yawn.

             “Alright, later dude,” Jack replies.

“Oh, and tell your mom I said hi!” I say quickly and I hear Jack mumble in acknowledgement as he hangs up.

I put my phone under my pillow and lie down. I guess now is the best time to think, to think about how much fun I’m going to have at school tomorrow, and about Victoria’s family. We just can’t kill off their family so soon in my new life, that’s not fair. I need a battle plan, and soon. I have two weeks, fourteen days, and that isn’t a lot of time when you’re in a rush.

I’ve never read a full on romance novel before, but I’m sure into vampire ones, and when has there never been a little romance in one of those?
