We enter the school just as the bell rings, I proceed toward the school office to get my class schedule and Victoria follows after me.

“What are you doing?” I ask as I hold open the door for you.

“I’m going to help you out,” she smiles kindly.

“Danny over there looks kinda pissed,” I point and Danny gives me a cold glare.

“He’ll get over it,” she shrugs and leads me toward the secretary’s desk.

“Good morning, Mary, we’ve got a new student,” Victoria introduces and Mary goes from bored to excited and quickly jumps up to greet me.

“Hello child, what’ll it be?” She asks quickly, her thick English accent makes her words seem slurred and sluggish.

“I need my class schedule,” I say.

             “What’s your name, boy?”

             “Shadow,” I say quickly.

“Shadow who?” She asks as she clicks away on her computer.

“Just Shadow, I’m sure there’s no other Shadow here,” I sharply. We never give out our last name, just our first name is fine, nothing really tips off our identity from just our first names.

“Ahh, you’re one of them,” she nods and winks.

“Huh, one of who?” I ask nervously.

“There’s another boy here who won’t speak of their last name, his family says it’s a religious thing,” she explains.

“Yea, that’s what it is,” I nod and reach out for the schedule she slides onto the top of the desk.

“You share your first class with him, his name is Zero, maybe you two can become friends,” she smiles.

“Thank you, Mary,” Victoria says before she walks out of the office and into the hall.

“So, what do you have first?” Victoria asks excitedly.

“Uhh, Math 12.” I say as I look over my schedule.

“How old are you?” Victoria asks as she takes my schedule.

             “17,” I answer.

             “Going on?” She wonders.

“I turned 17 a few months back,” I shake my head.

“Then why are you in all the 12 classes?” She asks, “let’s go talk to Mary, something probably went wrong.”

“Uhh, sure.” I say and enter the office again.

“Excuse us again, but why does he have all the 12 courses?” Victoria asks

.           “Let me check the system, where are you coming from?” She asks me.

             “America.” I say.

“What year do you graduate there?”

             “12.”

“What year were you in?” She asks, not looking up from the computer.

             “11.” I shrug.

             “Do you remember your grades?”

“Nothing lower than an 85,” I shake my head, if I ever brought a mark lower than 85, mother would leave me in a coma.

“Then there’s your answer,” she smiles as she pushes in the keyboard.

             “I skipped a grade mid-grade?” I ask.

“Sure did, now, I suggest you two get to class before you announcements begin.” She says and we quickly exit the office.

We quickly walk down the hallway, some doors open, some doors closed, until we stop in front a large gray door like the rest of the school.

“This is your class here,” Victoria points to the closed door with the numbers 408 on the door frame.

             “Thanks,” I smile.

“No problem,” she smiles kindly, “I’ll see you at lunch.” She waves then turns around and heads toward her class.

“Let the fun begin,” I sigh to myself before slowly opening the door and walking inside.
