Word count: 956Mr. Washington stepped into the classroom and the students fell silent. He walked to his desk and sat a stack of papers down with a thud. He looked around at his students and smiled. "Alright class," he began, "today you are getting in groups of five or six that you will be working in for the next month for your project."
(Y/N) looked around at her classmates who were already eyeing their group members. She rolled her eyes and went back to stretching random lines on her paper. "You will be choosing one of America's presidents that you believe was most influential to America, and do a power point presentation on them."
Washington sat the stack of paper and began passing them around the classroom. When the papers got to (Y/N) she realized it was a thick 15 page packet. She passed the papers back then began to look though the pages. There was an additional essay attached to the mandatory PowerPoint and for extra credit the student could write a rap or song about their president.
(Y/N) knew she was going to use President Christopher Jackson, America's first president, or President Daveed Diggs, the author of the Declaration Of Independence. She figured she would take whatever one she was left. Washington knew she didn't like to work in groups so he always let her work by herself while everyone else had partnered up. She didn't mind though. People in groups usually let her down anyway.
Washington cleared his throat once all the papers had been passed around. "Since this project is about half of your grade, and has a pretty big chuck of work needed to be done, you will all have a month to complete it. There will be time in class, such as today, but mostly it will be out of school." He said as he wrote the assignment under the homework column on the board. Some students groaned but Washington ignored them.
He turned back around with a smile. "Now class, get into your groups. And think think about what president you want." Chairs began squealing as they were dragged along the linoleum tiles. The students had mostly finished setting up in their groups when Washington noticed (Y/N).
"You may not work by yourself on this project, Miss (L/N)." He said in as he sat down at his desk. (Y/N) froze. Why couldn't she work by herself? He let her on every other assignment. She looked around the room for any available group.
Group one was full, with the Schuyler Sisters Peggy, Angelica, and Eliza. Theodosia and Maira were also in the group. Group two consisted of Thomas Jefferson, Aaron Burr, James Madison and James Reynolds. There was room in their group for one more but she wasn't going to be it. There were two groups left. Charles Lee, George Eacker, Samuel Seabury and Sally Hemming. She wasn't going to be in a group with Lee.
The last group contained four laughing boys. John "curly haired" Lauren's, Marquis "like fourthly other names" Lafayette, Hercules "Playboy" Mulligan, and their squad leader Alexander "I am alway correct" Hamilton. (Y/N) groaned as she collected her things. She made her way over to the boys, her feet dragging the ground in annoyance. They all stopped talking as she approached them.
"Hey... um..." John said as he tried to remember her name. "(Y/N)." She said with a nod. "I don't have a group and I'd rather not be in a group with Mr. Magenta over there, she said, pointing to Jefferson, "or... Lee" She said the last name with a hint of disgust. "Could I... maybe..." she started but was stopped by Lafayette.
"Be our guest, ma chere Mademoiselle. We welcome you to sit back, pull up a chair. As we proudly present our president!" He said in a welcoming French voice. She smiled slightly at him as she took one of the chairs from a different table and placed it in between John and Lafayette. She opened her notebook.
"So, who is our president?" She asked. Alexander's face brightened and he turned around the laptop in his hands to show a curly haired man with a big smile. "Daveed Diggs." He proudly said. He opened his mouth to speak but Mr. Washington cut him off. "Time to pick your presidents. No repeats. Jefferson, your up first." He said with a nod towards the magenta covered man's group.
"Daveed Diggs." He said with a smirk directed at Hamilton who sunk down in his seat. (Y/N) took the laptop and typed something while the others gave him their answers. Lee group was doing John Adams and the Schuyler group was doing President Okieriete Onaodowan.
Washington turned his attention to the Hamilsquad and (Y/N). She turned the computer around so everyone else could see. "What if we did President Christopher Jackson?" She asked the guys who nodded their head in agreement. Hercules told Washington that's who they were doing and Washington smiled. "You know, I've been told we look like twins." He laughed.
(Y/N) was happy with their choice and she could tell the others didn't mind either. She wrote her phone number down four times and handed the slips of paper to the men. "Here is my number. Text me about the project details." She told them as the four men wrote their numbers down and gave them to her.
"How about we all meet at Laf's tomorrow?" John asked. (Y/N) nodded. "Sounds good. Text me the details."
Washington cleared his throat to catch everyone's attention. "Now that that is settled, let's get on to today's lesson." A chorus of groans echoed throughout the class room.
