Marinette's POV
I started the bath and stepped in fully clothed in pajamas, not minding the cold. I left the water running until it got close to the top of the bathtub. Once it reached that height, I turned off the water and grabbed a razor. Until today, I had just done tick mark-like cuts to try to deal with the pain of Adrien ignoring me, but today was going to be different. Today, I was doing one the whole length of my forearm, from my wrist to someplace near my elbow.
I positioned the razor on my forearm and, taking a deep breath, I was about to press the razor into my skin when the door to the bathroom flew open and I saw a scene I had seen before, Adrien with wide eyes at the door to the bathroom. I saw him panting and realized he must've run up here. I was probably too focused on my task to notice the sound of running feet on stairs.
"Don't do it, Marinette!" Adrien yelled and ran towards me.
"What?" I asked, too shocked to move, let alone give a reply to his plea.
I barely felt anything as Adrien hugged me tight, whispering into my ear that I didn't have to do this. "You promised me you wouldn't do this!" Adrien exclaimed, taking away the razor and shaking me. "You promised..." Next thing I know, Adrien is hugging me, sobbing into my shoulder. "Please, just say something," Adrien pleaded.
"Adrien," I started. The boy looked up at me when I said that and I could clearly see his red, puffy eyes. "Is it really you?"
"Yes, Marinette. It's really me," Adrien whispered, hugging me tighter.
Then, I heard feet running up the stairs. "Marinette, what are you doing?" Mom asked me, surprise clear in her eyes.
"I, uh, had just forgotten to get undressed before I got into the the bathtub," I said.
"But then why was Adrien yelling something about how you promised not to do this?" Dad asked.
"Uh, I-" I was cut off by Adrien with a ready explanation.
"I found out a little while ago that she accidentally did this sometimes and I knew that it practically ruined her clothes, so I asked her to promise me to not to it again," Adrien lied, placing a sheepish hand on the back of his neck. "What can I say? I guess it's just the fashion designer's son inside me."
"If you're sure," Dad said, sharing glances with Mom.
"I'm totally sure," I replied with a smile and watched as they walked downstairs, probably more confused than when they were coming up. My smile withered away and I turned to Adrien. "Thanks for covering for me," I said, feeling embarrassed.
"Anytime, Marinette," he replied with a worried look. He looked down then I saw his eyes widen as he saw my forearm. He snatched it out of the water and turned to me. "What's this? How long have you been doing it?"
"They're cuts from this very razor and it's been going on for a few weeks. A better question is, why didn't you text me back?" I asked, slowly taking my arm out of his hands.
"I broke my phone right after the plane landed, so I couldn't text you. I actually just got a new one today," he replied.
"Oh. I thought I was annoying you and you were done with me. I guess I overreacted. Sorry," I replied.
"I would never ignore you," Adrien said and took my hands in his. "Mari-" He was cut off by me shivering. "Let's warm you up," he said and I was shivering too much to reply. "Where are the towels?" I pointed to a nearby linen closet that held our towels. He pulled the stopper on the tub and ran over to get towels.
Hey. Thanks again for reading. I have at least one more chapter planned out. Bye!
