Winn's POV
On my way home I couldn't get Y/N out of my head. What did she mean by how it was too painful being my friend? It doesn't make any sense.
The next day, I walked into work and immediately headed towards Y/N's desk. I froze when it was empty. Not only was it empty, but there was no sign of anyone ever being there. Y/N's desk was completely cleared off. Her files were gone, her pictures were gone, even her favorite ball point pen was gone.
I quickly headed towards Kara's desk. "Kara!" I yelled louder than I meant to, causing her to jump.
"Winn, what is wrong with you? You scared me."
"Where's Y/N?" I asked quickly. Kara just opened and closed her mouth. "Kara, I know you talked to her before she left. I know you know what's wrong. I know you know what's going on. So please, tell me."
Kara's eyes softened. "Winn, you should really talk to her about it."
"Don't you think I've tried? I went to her apartment after work and she would barely open the door. All she said was that she didn't think we should be friends anymore because it was too painful. Kara, what does that mean?"
"How can you be so oblivious?" She sighed as she walked past me.
"Kara," I pressed feeling like a seven year old whining for a toy as I followed her.
"Winn, really think about what she said." She said, turning towards me. "Why is it painful for her?"
"I don't know!" I yelled throwing my hands up in defeat and frustration. "That's why I'm asking you."
"It's painful because. . ." Kara didn't get to finish her sentence.
"Hey, what's all the yelling about?" James asked, joining our conversation.
"Have you seen Y/N?" I asked, ignoring his question.
"Well she's. . . Wait," James said looking at Kara before looking back at me. "You don't know?"
"Don't know what? Guys, where is Y/N?"
"She quit this morning, man." He said putting his hand on my shoulder.
"She. . . She quit?" I looked between Kara and James. Kara wouldn't make eye contact and James just looked at me like he told me my dog was hit by a car.
"No," I said softly, stepping away from his grip. "She wouldn't. . . She wouldn't just leave. She would tell me. She would talk to me about it. And she would definitely say goodbye," I said the last part under my breath.
"Can you blame her?" I jumped at how harsh Kara sounded. When I looked at her, she was practically glaring at me.
"Winn, Y/N has had to sit back and watch you hook up with other girls, in the supply room may I add, since her first day here. Winn, you're my best friend but you're an idiot if you don't realize how much Y/N likes you."
"What? Kara," I started to defend myself.
"Y/N has been in love with you since your conversation in the elevator her first day," Kara said, cutting me off. She looked around and lowered her voice. "Winn, she's tired of pretending it doesn't bother her. That it doesn't hurt her, but it does. It destroys her. She thinks that you will never look at her the way she looks at you so she's leaving. She thinks that she needs a fresh start. Somewhere she can have a new job and meet new people. Somewhere she won't be reminded of what she can't have."
"Somewhere without me." I looked up at Kara to see her sending me a sad look. "This. . . I can't just let her leave."
"So, what are you going to do about it?" James asked with a smirk on his face.
"I'm going to stop her from leaving," I said running towards the elevator.
