🔥🔥🔥Chapter Three🔥🔥🔥
Inside my head, I'm jumping for joy. Dancing, screaming, laughing.
I've found my other half. I knew with that one kiss, he's the one. My true love.
Let me recap.
We walked through the trees, back to our families, holding hands.
His little sister was walking in front of us, seemingly ignoring us, but I could practically see her ears pricked for any conversation.
When we reached the lake, my dads and Summer's parents were laughing as they got on two different peddle boats. Summer's little sister ran and stood on the back of their parents' peddle boat.
"You'll be on this one, kids." A twenty something man had his foot on the edge of a third peddle boat, keeping it steady.
Summer got on first and held me by my waist as I stepped over him and sat in my seat. His hand moved to hold my hand.
We peddled out to the middle of the lake where we sat, gently bobbing in the water. The sun beat down on us as we told each other about ourselves.
His little sister is Kenzie, his mother is Kate, and his father is Oliver. His best friend, Jackson, was going to come but almost had to repeat sophomore year so was sent to summer school instead. His favorite band is Coldplay and his favorite colour is blue.
I told him how I bounced around foster homes until I was twelve, when George and Roberto adopted me, a newly married couple of two years. While I was in the system, I had a sister who they let live with me, but fell short in telling my new dads about. Her name was Penny and was sweeter than brown sugar. She was a cute, mousy brunette who was two years younger than I.
He had tears in his eyes when I told her about Penny running away to find me, and find me she did. I was fourteen and she was twelve. She was on the other side of the street and we recognized each other. She ran across the cross walk but someone ran a red light and she was hit.
Summer held me to his chest as I sobbed over my dead sister.
I straightened up and put a smile on my face after that, deciding to enjoy the warm sun rays and my amazing company.
We peddled to the opposite shore and got off. While pulling the peddle boat up on shore, I slipped and fell into the mud.
Summer had the nerve to laugh as I laid in the mud, my swimsuit cover clinging to my side and mud on my cheek. I joined him after a shocked moment.
Then when he was pulling me to my feet and slipped on mud himself. We ended up having a mud fight.
He was straddling me, tickling me when he suddenly stopped, watching my cheerfully teary eyes.
I stopped laughing and smiled up at him. I put my hands on his cheeks held his face close to mine, lips tantalizingly close.
Then he kissed me. A warm feeling spread in my chest. I have traces of it now. I felt more complete then I ever have.
"My glowing Ember," he had whispered against my lips.
Afterwards, I took my swimsuit cover off, leaving it on a tree branch, and Summer took his shirt off. We went swimming, cleaning our selves of mud. We got out and peddled back.
Kenzie pulled me away later, giving me a sharp introduction and a death threat if I hurt her brother.
"I'll take a knife and shove it up your...," where her exact words. I don't think most thirteen years olds even know words like the ones she used.
Now, I'm laying in my sleeping bag, staring through a screen at the shining stars above me. The secret stares and sweet smiles me and Summer shared the rest of the day are running through my mind.
"You were right, Lucky. I found my soul mate. Do you see him? What do you think?" I whisper, my left hand under my head and my right hand holding a shiny penny.
