When I got home no one was there, which was odd, because when I usually get home there's always something going on. Mom's either cooking, or David's playing video games, etc. This time though, this time there's nothing moving in the house.
"Mom? Dad?" I called out nervously.
"Hello, Hope. We have been waiting for you." A mysterious voice called out.
"Who's here? I...I have a gun."
"We both know that's a lie, Hope. Come into the living room if you'd please." The mysterious voice asked.
I hesitated before walking into our huge living room. Sitting on one of our oversized black couches was the second most good looking guys I had seen today, (note he was not as good looking as the other boy I had seen today).
"Ah, Hope, your just as beautiful as I remember."
I was taken aback by his statement. What did he mean as beautiful? I've never seen this guy in my life, much less conversed with him. He must have seen the confusion on my face because he said, "I seen you once before, when you were five, and I knew you were the one. Your parents must have sensed it because, they moved you away. I've been searching for you ever since and now, I have found you."
I stood there shocked, what did he mean I was the one. What did my parents know? And how did this dude get into my house. "H-how, d-did you g-get into m-my h-house?" I stuttered terribly, I silently cursed myself for being so scared of this man.
"Here I will show you how I got here." In a flash he lifted himself off the ground, almost as if he was flying, and went up our chimney. Five seconds later he waltzed in through our front door.
"That still doesn't explain how you got in here." I stated.
"I have special powers Hope, I can levitate, I can move objects with my mind, I can freeze and melt things, and I can transform into one animal of my choice."
"But what does this" I moved my hands airily around his general area. "Have to do with me?"
"You're one of us, but you are the most powerful of us all."
I looked at him confused. I don't know anything about this magical world of his, much less what 'we' are called.
"So, if what you say is true, what are 'we'?"
"'We' are called Destined. There are lots of us, but most don't show themselves often. The only reason I'm here is because I need to prepare you."
"So my parents now I'm a Destined?" I was still confused on this whole most powerful of them all thing, and I needed answers.
"Yes, they do, but they were going to keep it a secret from you so you wouldn't get harmed." He told me this with such a matter of fact tone I was so sure as to believe him. So it was obvious what my next question was.
"Do I have to go with you? I mean wouldn't my parents come looking for me?"
"Maybe, but if you don't come with me your powers can fall into the hands of evil. They would use you in a way that Destined aren't supposed to be used. Especially our most powerful." He replied
I didn't know what to say to that. My whole life is suddenly changing underneath me and I don't have control over it, something I'm not fond of. "How do I know your not lying to me?"
He paused seeming to think over what I asked him. Before I was going to wave my hand in his face to see if he was still there he did something that left me speechless. He waved his hand in the air, almost as if he was swiping a fly away. Instead, the air where he just waved rippled and began to morf into something that looked almost like a tiny TV.
I was so entranced that when he spoke again I jumped a good five feet off the ground. "Just watch, and you will see I am not lying to you."
I don't know why but I listen. On the screen two men are standing there. One of them looks frighteningly familiar and I realize it was the guy I talked to just before I got home. "Hey! I know him, he's one of the people who spray painted my school!"
Seemingly surprised the nameless guy turned around and said, "What?!"
"Yeah, him and another guy were at my school a couple days ago spray painting the main office." I replied.
He just stared off for a little bit, and then slowly his face morphed into one of anger. "I'm gonna kill those boys!!"
"What boys?" I questioned.
He blinked as if realizing I was there for the first time. Finally after what seemed like forever he replied.
"My two sons, Jared and Damon. They're always causing ruckus in every town we go to." He replied hotly.
"Would one of your boys happen to be around 6'3, blondish hair, and sapphire blue eyes?" I asked nervously.
"Yes, actually, that's Jared."
While I thought about the answer he gave me I sat there confused. If this man was his father, then why was he with that old guy? It wasn't adding up. I guess he noticed the confused expression on my face because he said exactly what was on my mind.
"The old guy Jared was with isn't really his dad, it's a guy that's letting me and Jared stay with us."
"What about Damon? Where is he?"
"Damon's staying at our main base. After the first couple of months of not being able find you, he kinda gave up. Boy will he be happy when you show up at base camp."
"What are you talking about? I never said I was goin with you." I replied instantly.
His face instantly fell. "Oh no, no no. That won't do. You need to come with me Hope. It's the only chance for us Destined. Your the only one who's meant to lead us."
I stood there dumbfounded. How was I supposed to decide whether I was supposed to just up and leave my family? Especially with someone I don't even know? If I'm supposed to be with them, then why did my parents keep me hidden from them for so long?
