Nowhere To Run

The footsteps echoed loudly against the empty hallways, a quick-footed pace, like a heart beating fast. The school was dark, no one around to witness the tragedy soon to occur. The only light came from the moon, through the tall windows of the school.  I pressed my hand against my chest. I was exhausted, my feet ached, and I was running out of time. Behind me, a pair of glowing, blue eyes stared at me through the darkness. Its breath was hot against my ankles. It was catching up. I quickly took a corner, but the hallways were all the same. The same blue lockers lined up in rows, the same red carpet... I was trapped, the glowing eyes chasing after me in a never ending loop. If only I had listened, if I had actually gone home like I was supposed to... Even if we did have our differences, I now will never have the chance to say goodbye. My legs were now burning, my asthma slowing me down... I stopped. I turned around in time to see a gaping hole of sharp teeth.
