Where?

I looked for hours for that van. I slammed my head on the steering wheel and took a deep breath. I finally decided to go to the police station to see if they found anything. My heart sank on my way there, my stomach started to hurt and my eyelids were heavy. I couldn't help but ask myself if i turned down the wrong street or if my head was to all over the place to see the van.

I pulled into the police station and tried to breathe I walked in and it was too quite. A young man at the front desk looked up at me.

"Can I help you with something miss?" He said

"Yes, I was wondering if you had any information on the missing person on Endicott street" I spoke as evenly as I could.

He tapped away at the computer in front of him, his eyes scanned the screen.

"Nothing yet, but there is several officers looking for the van right now."

"Okay, thank you." I speed walked out to my car. I drove back to the dorms for the rest of my shift

My coworker whose name I could never remember walked in. He was old and heavier, he always had his hot coffee and two boxes of donuts for the students.

" Looking a little rough this morning." He said with his eyebrows scrunched together

"Yeah, we had an incident." I told him

"What happened?"

"A girl was taken last night. I'm not sure if she was on her way here or not but I herd her scream and i couldn't catch up to the van that took her." I got up and got my stuff together.

"Well don't get too hung up on it I'm sure the police will find her."

"Hopefully."

I walked out and went to my car. I wasn't in the mood to go home right this minute so I went to my usual breakfast spot. It was a little out of the way from home but it was worth it.  How many more people will get taken before me or the police find and stop them? How many nights will I be working that people will be taken and not found?

I got to the restaurant and it still smelled the way it always has. Like strong coffee and cigarettes, it never bothered me. It was almost comforting

I've always liked Mary she never asked to many personal questions but was always friendly. She reminded me of my mother, stuck working the same job and the same haircut she probably had 20 years ago.

" How are you doing this morning hun?" She said

"I'm alright just enjoying the weather while it's here."

"Yeah, some snow on the way soon hopefully not much. You want the usual?"

"Yes, that would be wonderful." I forced a smile.

Mary brought me over my coffee and I sat and looked at the steam swirling into the air until my food came. I was looking around when I noticed an unfamiliar face across the dining room.

His skin was as pale as mine almost translucent, but smooth like silk. His hair jet black hair was combed back along with very neatly shaved facial hair. He wasn't thin but he wasn't chubby either, was that muscle? I couldn't help but look at his arms and chest tracing every line of muscle. His arms had spread out tattoos none that I could make out from so far. He looked up and our eyes locked.

I jumped at the sight of his eyes, an emerald green. I quickly looked back down at my coffee, no one like that would ever give me the time a day.

I couldn't tell if he was still looking at me or not it felt like eyes were on me but i didn't want to look up. After a minute or two I finally looked up, I had to know if he was still there. And he was, staring at me, I looked around to make sure it was me. After a few seconds of our eyes on each other he finally got up left his money on the table and walked out of the restaurant.

My heart was in my stomach and my breathing became irregular. Why would someone like that ever look at me?

I saw him everyday for almost a month, no words were ever said to each other. We both just looked at each other. I couldn't judge his reasoning for looking at me, he always had the same weird smile on his face. I wasn't sure if I should be flattered or terrified.
