"This is a bad idea. " i breathed as we rearranged the furniture in the living room.

"What, dont like the set up buttercup" Carson, my best friend smirked.

I looked at him. "No, moving back to this town. " my mother insisted we move back. That it was where we where we were the happiest, ya know, 5 years ago.

Dad found us again. He hurt us again. And thats why we hit the road.

Flashback
"Carson!" I screamed as fingers hooked into my hair and flung me off the bed and on to the floor. I opened my mouth to scream again when a foot collided with my ribs, again and again. A fist flew into my face when something tackled my father to the ground.

"Charlie, go!"
End of flash back

"You loved this place! Maybe that boy is still around town, what was his name?" She said fixing her glasses.

"Boy?" Carson asked raising an eyebrow. In the almost 5 years we've been friends, i never told him about Toby. Or wolves. I never told anyone.

"Tyler? Tony?...no that wasnt it " my mother still trying to figure it out. "He was like Charlie's little..tall protector. Good kid" she said this time to Carson who narrowed his eyes at me.

I groaned internally. "It was nothing, flannel boy"

He smirked. "You love my flannels" and he was right. He stood there in black skinny jeans and red flannel. I often stole them.

"The two of you" my mom smiled. "Oh! Charlie run to that grocery store we used to go to and get some basics. You kids eat a lot. "

Carson snorted. "She doesnt eat. It's me, eating everything. All the time"
My mom punched his shoulder and he laughed heartedly. I was glad we had him around.

He came from a bad home. I just came from a bad dad.

"Let me grab my jacket real quick" i said and ran up the steps to my bedroom. I threw on a baggy, distressed jean jacket and a grey scarf, over my plain shirt and black leggings. I took my reflection in as i passed the mirror.
I was shortish. My hair was almost a silvery blonde down to my waist. My eyes were big and blue, or so Carson says. I was pale with a pointy nose. I wasnt much.

But i wasnt the 13 year old girl with braces anymore.

I sighed ran down stairs where my mom handed me cash and the car keys.

"Im coming" Carson chirped and we headed out to the jeep where we climbed in and drove through the town ive grown to hate the last 5 years.

"So how come youve never mentioned this guy" Carson asked from the passenger seat and i could feel his eyes on me.

"It was just... puppy love" i said ironically.

He watched me not believing me. I met Carson when we moved. His parents kicked him into the streets when he turned 15 and hes stayed with us ever since.
He knew about my dad.

He knew about the nightmares i had...the countless nights he's burst into my room with me screaming in my sleep.

But he knew nothing about my "mate" if you could even call Toby that anymore. "I was just a stupid kid, that believed anything. " i said and he said nothing.

Just placed his hand on my knee and looked out the window as we drove. I glanced down at his large hand briefly. I loved Carson to death, he was my best friend. We had never acted as anything else. But we were definitely cuddle buddies. Sometimes.

I shook my head and let my mind drift off until we got to the Market, which was a few minutes later. We hopped out of the truck silently and headed in, Carson pushing the cart.
