The rain is pouring down, pounding against the windows and Shawn shifts his attention towards his elderly professor who has just started speaking, PowerPoint slides popping up behind him.
The seat next to him is empty and he reaches down to get his phone out of his backpack. He quickly sends a text to Charlotte, keeping his phone under the table.
Where are you?
Charlotte was never late to class. She was an exemplary student. Always on time, always prepared and he frowns, looking over his shoulder.
Nate was missing as well.
Great.
He catches the blonde girl in the row behind him looking and he forces himself to smile back, before turning around again. It was cold outside and the heaters were turned on, making him start to feel hot. Taking off his black hoodie, he adjusts his grey t-shirt and stretches a little, making the girl next to him stare at him. Or at his biceps to be more precise.
He impatiently checks his phone again just to stare at his lock screen.
No message.
It was starting to worry him. With people talking about that recent case of sexual harassment on campus, Shawn had been feeling even more protective towards Charlotte. He would always keep an eye on her and make sure she would never have to walk back to her dorm all by herself at night.
And now that it was still dark and foggy outside he was starting to feel slightly uneasy.
He shoves his phone back into his backpack, continuing to jot down some notes on his script, jaw clenched, as she finally slides onto the seat next to him, cheeks flushed, hair wet.
"Hi," she pants into his ear, leaving a little puddle of water near his feet.
He slides a coffee to go over the table into her direction. "Hi."
"For me?" she whispers with a grin, taking off her jacket that is stained with rain drops.
"Yeah," he whispers back, turning the cup around with his huge hand. The barista had scribbled her name on it but messed it up as an 'e' was missing.
Shawn takes a black felt tip pen, has the cap between his teeth and adds the missing 'e' to the scrawly Charlott on the cup.
She smiles back at him, lips swollen, hair messy and Shawn glances at Nate who is taking his seat as well, looking just as dishevelled as Charlotte. He has a stupid smug grin on his handsome face and it's pretty obvious what they have been up to.
"Where have you been?" Shawn murmurs into her ear.
"Overslept," she murmurs back, shuffling closer to copy his notes, frowning as she tries to decipher his bad handwriting.
Shawn squints at Nate who looks like he has stepped out of a Ralph Lauren ad. Blonde hair all messy from the rain, the sleeves of his baby blue button down shirt rolled up, exposing his pearly whites as he was greeting the guy next to him.
Idiot.
Charlotte is still breathing heavily, craning her neck to get a better look at Shawn's notes.
