I stared blankly at the suitcases all packed in the trunk of our rental car. It's crazy how an entire life could be summed up in just a few small bags isn't it?
"Mia! Help your sister with the last bag!" My mum shouted from across the yard, snapping me out of my thoughts. I whined before getting up and collecting the last bag from my little sister who looked ridiculous cause she was so short even though she was already 11 years old.
Within a few minutes we were packed and ready to leave. I twisted my body around in the car, struggling with the seat belt that held me in place, and took one last look at what had been my home for 21 years. The great times I had in that house, I thought to myself, from running around bare feet, dripping wet after a water balloon fight with my friends on a hot summer day to cuddling up next to my mum and dad infront of our little fire place in the winter.
Our house wasn't much. It was tiny and aged. Some of the wooden boards on it were consumed with termites and it was slowly rotting. You would probably wonder, "why is she even grieving to leave that house?" My answer would always remain simple, that old, broken wooden house was home.
My dad always said that wherever we went, as long as we were together then any place would be home. I guess he was right. England would just have to be our new home now. He had recently gotten a promotion at his workplace and the new position was in England. Ofcourse moving from New York to England was a big deal but it wasn't a hard decision. We didn't have much here, no family, barely any money to put food on the table and send my little sister Lily to school as well as put me through college. Despite all this, I was grateful. I watched my Dad's hair transform from black to grey, a little more each day and I knew how much he worked and how much harder it was getting as he grew older. So, in many ways I was glad he had been promoted to England.

After what seemed like forever, we finally boarded the plane. I was seated next to Lily who was anxiously looking out the window. I signaled to one of the flight attendants to bring me a blanket as I was already freezing my ass off. I draped the blanket over my cold body and tucked the small, white pillow under my head as I prepared for the 12 hour flight that would change my life forever.

I was awakened by a soft but excited voice. I already knew who it belonged to before opening my eyes, I could never mistake her voice anywhere, Lily's voice. "What?" I said dragging out the word, slight annoyance evident in my voice.
"Wake up! Look outside we're here. It's London." I cocked my head up beside the little window and was taken aback by what I saw. It was beautiful. Obviously I'd seen London in the movies and pictures but this was amazing. Pictures did not in any way do this place justice. The sun was now rising and the entire city was an orangish red color.
I heard the pilot's voice as he warned everyone to take their seats and fasten their seat belts shortly before I felt the wheels of the plane hit the ground. This is it, I thought to myself, the first day of the rest of my life.

After standing in line for about an hour, we could finally collect our bags and head home...well our new home. Id be lying if I said my nostalgia wasn't already setting in. I missed New York already but I was determined to make the most of this city. I had to give this new life a fair chance, for my dad, my mum and for Lily.
Dad hailed a cab and we all jumped in and headed towards the apartment we would soon call home.
******
We didn't take long to get there as the apartment was right in the heart of London. I helped Dad with the suitcases and finally, after about 2 flights of stairs, we all stood in the center of our new living room. I had to say, it was pretty neat. The floors were smooth hardwood and most of the furniture was black leather. The TV was huge as was the kitchen. I could definitely get used to this. Everyone stood silently, just taking in the view of our new home before Lily excited asked to see her bedroom.
I watched as Mum and Dad took Lily through a wide corridor before wandering off up the flight of spiral stairs that stood at the corner of the living room. I ran my hand across the rails as I took in the smooth, glossy texture. As I got to the top of the stairs I noticed a door at the end of a narrow corridor. I assumed this was the master bedroom by the huge size. A queen sized bed was placed in the middle of the room and I could see a jacuzzi peeking out from the crack in the door which I assumed led to the bathroom. One of the walls was made entirely of glass so I could see the busy streets of London right outside. I did expect this apartment to be a step up from our house in New York but damn I did not expect it to be this good.

It was now 5 in the afternoon and we were finally done unpacking. Photos of us hung from the walls in picture frames making this beautiful apartment feel like home. Oh by the way, did I mention how awesome my new bedroom was? It even has a jacuzzi! Yes I got the master bedroom. My parents decided that since the other two bedrooms were on the first floor, they wanted to be near Lily so I got the entirely second floor to myself.
I decided to go for a walk, just to see what it looked like outside as I hadn't gotten a chance to earlier. I grabbed my coat and headed outside. As I swung the door open, the cold air hit my face and I shivered. New York was definitely not this cold. It was barely October. It only made me worry about what winter would be like.
I tucked my hands in the pockets of my coat and began walking, looking around, absorbing the beauty of my surroundings. I noticed a park nearby. There weren't too many people so I decided it would be nice to sit down for a little while. I let my body relax into the small wooden bench as I stared mindlessly at the few kids that were there.
I was snapped out of my slight trance as I heard loud laughing from across the park. My eyes trailed around, trying to find the source of the laughter before I finally realized it was coming from the swings. A little girl was in one of the kiddies swing and what I saw next was the most ridiculous yet hilarious thing id seen all week. A strange woman in a colorful long sleeved shirt was trying to fit herself into one of the kiddies swings. Her hair was shiny, black and completely straight. It was in the style of a bob. Her jeans hugged every curve on her body perfectly. She was gorgeous. I hadn't realized I was staring until I saw her eyes focused in my direction. If I wasn't so far away id say her face had turned tomato red from what I would assume to be embarrassment. She grinned widely at me and I smiled back, still trying to control my laughter as I turned away and shook my head.
A few minutes later I decided I should head home as it was now starting to get dark. The strange woman was still there and I couldn't help but feel like she was staring at me. I dismissed the thought as I was sure she had better things to do than pay any heed to a girl who was alone in the park. As I got up to leave, I realized the nearest exit was in close proximity of the swing. I could feel myself getting nervous and I swore under my breath as I realized how ridiculous it was that this woman whom I had no idea about had such an effect on me. I gathered my courage and continued walking with my head down before I heard a friendly, female voice. It was her.
"Bye!" She said, her voice piercing strongly through my thoughts. I looked up quickly in her direction, she was waving at me. I couldn't help but smile and I waved back at her, our eyes finding each other's and making eye contact. I quickly broke the gaze and lowered my head as I continued walking.
I laid in bed later that night, wrapped in my soft, warm blanket. Would I ever see her again? I wondered before drifting off to a deep sleep.
A/N: So this is abit rushed. I promise it gets better. Comment, Vote, all that good shit.
