Chapter 5

When Betty woke up the next day she was tired and her head hurt, probably from all the crying the day before. Jug was still asleep next to her and she looked over at the time 7am. Quickly she got dressed and brushed her hair before grabbing her school bag and heading down to the bar to get breakfast. The Whyte Wyrm did breakfast, lunch and dinner at the end of the bar; like a buffet. When Betty got downstairs she was greeted by the serpents who already seemed to be there. Instantly Toni, fangs and Sweetpea came up to her and wrapped her up in a big group hug. "How you doing?" Fangs asked. "I'm okay,just hungry" she said, flashing them a smile. "Well then let's get our very favourite serpent princess some breakfast" Sweetpea said as he accompanied her to the buffet. Betty grabbed a plate off Toni and took a chocolate croissant; her favourite. Taking her food she sat down at a table and started eating. A few minutes later FP entered the wyrm and spotted Betty eating breakfast and made her a coffee and went to sit with her. "Hey Mini coop" he greeted her and she responded with a smile. "You're up early" he stated. "Yeah I have school soon" she said. This caught the attention of a few other serpents. "You're going to school today?" Toni asked her. "Of course why wouldn't I ?" Betty said. "Does jug know about this?" FP asked. "Do I know about what?" Jug said suddenly appearing and sliding in next to Betty. "That betts is going to school today" Sweetpea explained. "Babe? You are?" Jug said, surprised. "Yes, I can't stop my whole life because of my mother" she sighed. "Okay then but call us if you need anything" FP said before getting up to do some work at the back of the bar. "You doing alright today baby?" Jug asked Betty when it was just the two of them. "Yeah, Thank you for looking out for me" she said and he squeezed her leg in response. "So I see your addiction to chocolate croissants hasn't ended" Jug said laughing while looking at her plate. "They're my favourite" She grinned while taking an exaggerated bite. Jug just laughed. After her breakfast she bid goodbye to everyone and left to school. Once at school she assured Veronica, Kevin and Archie she was okay and went to class. Around lunchtime the emotional turmoil she had endured the last couple of days was finally catching up with her so she told her friends she was heading home, she asked for work off her teachers for the rest of the week and signed out before heading back to the Whyte Wyrm. Upon arriving she took note that the bar was quiet than usual during lunchtimes. She spotted jughead, FP, Sweetpea, fangs and Sweetpea instantly who were sat on a table laughing and joking. An older serpent called Bernie was behind the bar so She assumed Toni wasn't work this shift. She made her way to the table and the others looked at her in surprise. "Babe? What are you doing here? Did something happen at school?" Jug said, his protectiveness coming out. "No no, I was just tired so I got my work for the rest of the week and I'm just going to do it here. Is that okay?" She asked. " of course" Jug said, he gave her a soft kiss on her lips and let her move to another table to do her work. Once she was settled and out of earshot the others on the table started talking. "I know she says she's fine but she's always so happy and smiley and now it's all very forced" Toni said. "I know, I want our ray of sunshine back" fangs added. "I think she just needs to process everything and I'm sure she'll be back to her normal self" jug said, staring at his girlfriend. "I also think we need to let her know she can Lean on us, I mean look at her hands! I had no idea she had demons like that and she's clearly used to hiding it she can talk to us" FP said. "Yeah she needs to know the Serpents are behind her no matter what" Sweetpea said. The day passed slowly with Betty doing school work and the others doing odd jobs around the bar. Around 6pm the bar became busy again so Betty put her stuff in her backpack and called it a day with her school work. She sat at her table and started scrolling through her phone when she felt the booth dip beside her and a familiar pair of arms snake around her. "Hey baby" Jug said kissing her. "Hello" she smiled. "All done with your work?" He asked. "Yep, for today, now I'm just watching funny cat videos" she grinned causing jughead to laugh. "you're so damn adorable Betty Cooper" he said, pulling her in for another kiss. "Shall we get you some dinner?" He asked her after a little make out session. "I'm not really hungry" she said, engrossed in her phone again. "Baby, you haven't eaten since breakfast you need to eat something" he said sternly. "Okay fine" she caved. "Great I'll be right back" he said. Five minutes later not only was jughead back with her dinner; but FP, fangs and Sweetpea came with their own plates. "Thought you might like some more company" FP said smiling at her, which she returned. "Here you go betts" Jug said placing a plate In front of her which had mashed potatoes, vegetables and chicken. "Thanks juggie" She said and they all dug into their food, sharing stories and laughter.
