Miku heard all the rumors. She was fully aware of what people were saying about her relationship with a previous playboy. But she kept insisting he's changed, he's settled down for good this time.
It got harder to ignore when a girl she didn't know too well, Gumi, had started bragging about the sex they had last weekend. Word travels fast in a small town.
But nothing prepared her for what happened when she sat him down and talked about the rumors.
"What'd you want to talk about?" Len asked casually, his hand gripping her thigh.
Miku bit her lip and knew if he didn't stop, she'd lose track of what she wanted to talk about. But she didn't really want to have this conversation, he cared about her. Right?
"Well.." Her voice trailed off as his grip got tighter.
"You sounded serious over the phone. Did something happen?" The concern in his voice seemed real. So did the look in his eyes.
She came to her senses and scooted away from him while still facing him. In order to get him to really pay attention, she cleared her throat and put on a serious face.
"Yes, or, I'm not sure. Which is why I wanted to talk with you." Len nodded, signaling her to continue. Miku took in a deep breath and carried on. "There's this girl, named, uh, Gumi. She's been saying a lot of stuff.. About you. And that you two did stuff.. Together."
"Miku." Len called her name in a flat, almost bored tone. "I knew you'd find out someday."
With every word that passed his lips, her heart dropped further. What's that supposed to mean? Find out what?
"Wh.. What?" Miku's voice wavered with disbelief. Surely nothing that dumb broad said was true. It couldn't be, they were in love. He wouldn't throw their relationship away for sex. He wouldn't dare betray her like that after everything she's done for him.
"Gumi, yeah. I remember her." The look on his face was something she'd never seen. It was the absence of all emotions. "Whatever she said is probably true. Now how does this go, are you gonna cry, leave, scream at me, or?" His eyes flickered between her and the door.
"Wh.." Her heart thumping in her chest was the only thing she could hear. It was pounding in her ears as panic and realization set in. "No.."
"I'm sorry, Miku." Len rose to his feet and glanced down at her as she clamped a hand over her mouth. "I'll be back tomorrow for my things." And with one last peep, Len went for the door.
In Miku's panicked daze, her eyes scanned the room before she saw it.
The picture they had taken on their one year. She had it framed and on the coffee table. Miku snatched it up and swiftly smashed it over the back of his head.
"Shit!" The shards of glass cut into Len's skull and his hands flew up to try figuring out what just happened. He had turned around, eyes wide, jaw slack and his hands franctilly feeling the back of his head.
When he looked down at his hands, his blood boiled at the crimson liquid on his fingers.
Len took not even two long strides toward her. Miku backed up in terror and almost told him to leave. But his hands around her throat stopped her.
Len had an awful look in his eyes. His fingers pushing on his windpipe, making her eyes water. Miku then gave him a knee to the area between his thighs and watched him crumble before her.
"F-Fuck, Miku.."Len hissed out. He was hunched over and wincing at the throbbing caused by her knee. She gasped, finally able to inhale again.
Miku darted out the apartment door. She then ran down the hall and bounded up the stairs to her left. The first door belonged to her first love. Someone who she always ran to when things got too much for her to handle.
"Kaito!" Her tiny fists pounded on the door as she kept screaming out his name. "Open the fucking door!" By now, Miku had a bit of blood on her hands, hand prints around her neck and tear soaked cheeks.
Kaito had swung the door open, catching Miku by surprise.
"What.. What happened?" His eyebrows knitted together in concern. "Come in."
With how hard she was sobbing, her shoulders were moving in rhythm with her cries.
"You were right about Len, everyone was!"
