But, of course, it gets worse.
Edward was captured by Warwick. For some reason Edward rides out alone. It's easy for Warwick to capture him. He now holds the king. In chess, it would be the ultimate move but this isn't a game of chess, it's real life.
He sends a letter to Elizabeth, telling her to go to the Tower of London with their daughters. Her father, Lord Rivers, and brother, John, are riding to meet them when they too are captured by Warwick. He executes them without trial, reason or charge. They are executed on his word alone.
Still Edward survived in prison but I just didn't know how long he could hang on.
