POV~ Miss Ravira

I placed my purse down on my desk and heard a buzzing noise. I had a reminder.

New student today! Lynn Travison.

I picked the list of my students and saw that her name was added to the bottom in blue ink.

I looked around my classroom. It was sort of small compared to the other kindergarten classrooms but I only had fourteen students, now fifteen. I pushed one of the desks into a cluster of four so that the new girl could take that seat. I looked at the name tags on the other four desks that were at that cluster. All of them were written in variety of crayon colors.

Sienna, Nathan, Christian, Jess.

Those students would probably be nice to Lynn and I had faith that they'd welcome her into the classroom. I've only had them for a few months since the school year started not too long ago but I knew which students would be welcoming and which wouldn't. The group I put her at now would probably invite her in and make her feel comfortable. I got out a piece of paper, folded it in half and placed it on the table with a box of crayons so that she could write her name on it.

I glanced over at the clock. 7:29. I had to go down now. The way Marshwood Elementary worked is I, as the teacher, had to go find my class in the gymnasium and bring them to my classroom. Their spot in the gym was in the corner next to the pull-up bars. I looked back at my classroom. Everything was fine. All the desks were in their clusters, papers on my desk, crayons in the boxes...it was all neat.

When I walked into the gymnasium, I saw my students all standing in a cluster. All of them were there. All fourteen of them. That meant Lynn wasn't here yet. I walked over and I was immediately greeted by three students. Jess, Lydia, and Sienna.

They were the chatty, extroverted, girls in my class. The three of them were stuck like glue and if they were high schoolers, they would be considered the popular girls. They all wanted to be the first one in line.

"Hi Miss Ravira!" Jess exclaimed staring up at me. She mispronounced it all the time but I personally didn't care so I let her. She's only five.

"Hello Jess, let's go to class now." I called all the students in my class and they all lined up one behind the other. We walked down to the classroom and all of them ran to put their backpacks and coats in their cubbies. I stood near the door wondering if Lynn was going to show up before class would begin. Hopefully.

Time Skip

I was reading a book to my students about sharing on the carpet when there was a knock at the door. I turned around to see the principal standing with a little girl by her side.

Lynn.

Lynn had thin blonde hair with a large pink headband across it. She looked shy and quiet because she was staying next to the principal not looking at me, rather staring at the classroom. In her hands she had a purple stuffed hippopotamus which was losing some of its stuffing because of how tight she was hugging it. I noticed her shoes were a bit dirty but that may have been because she stepped in the dirt that was around the perimeter of the building. She also had a small Hello Kitty band-aid on her chin.

However, her eyes are what got my attention.

Lynn had silver eyes. Dull, silver eyes. I have never seen a child with silver eyes so it was quiet peculiar.

"Hello Miss Ravira, you have a new student! Class, this is Lynn Travison. Say hi!" The principal informed the class, gesturing Lynn forward so the students could see her. She slowly walked over toward the carpet where all the students sat. They all began to whisper to each other shooting Lynn some glances.

"Hi Lynn! I'm your kindergarten teacher, Miss Ravira. We're reading a book that's all about sharing with others. Go put your backpack and coat in a cubby and then come back and sit down on the carpet." I said in a friendly tone. She gave me a brief smile then placed everything in a cubby. The principal, Mrs. Jennings, gave me a nod of reassurance and then left the room.

I felt a tap on my shoulder. Jess was standing up in front of me.

"How come her eyes are gray?" Jess whispered with a surprisingly harsh tone.

"She was born with them." I said back to Jess. Jess gave Lynn a weird look and then returned to her spot on the carpet next to Lydia and Sienna. I immediately remembered where I sat Lynn. I hope I didn't make a mistake and put her somewhere she wouldn't be comfortable. Hopefully she'd make a friend. At least one.
