Thunder boomed loudly outside, the cold rain pouring harshly onto the ground. It was around 2:00 in the morning and poor baby Isabella woke up crying because of the thunder. It was really loud and it scared her.

The cradle that she was laying in was at the foot of her parents bed. In case, ichabod or Katrina needed to get to her quickly.

A soft groan came from
Ichabod, who had his face in the pillow. He heard his little girl crying and he knew why. He slowly got out of bed, rubbing his tired eyes. He lit a candle and set it on the nightstand before walking to the cradle.

He looked down and saw Isabella crying. He leaned down and very gentle picked her up, cradling her close to his chest.

"Ssh, my little cardinal, it's alright..." he cooed as he gently bounced her, trying to get her to calm down. Katrina was still fast asleep.

Ichabod went back to bed and sat down, rocking her back and forth as he slowly caressed the back of her head.

"It's just thunder sweetheart. It can't harm you..." he tenderly kissed her temple. Isabella wouldn't stop crying. She was scared. Ichabod felt his heart break... hearing and seeing her cry.

Then he got an idea. When he was little, his mother used to do a trick where she had a cage on one side and a cardinal on the other. She would flip it repeatedly and it was magic. But also, she would hum.

Ichabod, still rocking her, started to softly hum a lullaby. He had never hummed to Isabella before, but he was willing to try because he wanted his baby to feel safe.

Sure enough, Isabella's cries slowly subsided, listening to the soft humming escaping ichabods throat. Her tiny hand held ichabods index finger as she looked up at him with her blue eyes.

Ichabod continued to hum as he grinned at his daughter. Isabella cooed before a soft yawn escaped her mouth. Her tiny hands rubbed her eyes before she snuggled against her fathers embrace. Soon after, she had fallen asleep.

Ichabods heart melted when he watched her fall asleep against his chest.

He carefully laid down, his hand gently resting on her tiny back. He looked at his wife and wrapped his other arm around her before pulling her close. He held his two girls close as it continued to thunder outside. He wouldn't let anything happen to them. They were his world.
