The Sanctuary

My father was fast asleep in the blankets which held him while his shoes were underneath the bed. His arms and legs had scars and bruises and a small amount of blood was being given to him. The image took my breath away. My hand was covering my mouth so that my silent sobs wouldn’t wake him up to find his daughter weeping in front of him. I had gone to the small patch of greenery outside the sanctuary which they called a ‘garden’ with Bobbles right after digesting the scene which I had seen. ‘You never told me that he was THAT injured! I thought he just had a scratch or two. But no I end up seeing his limbs almost broken!’ I cried. Bobbles tried to comfort me but I shoved him off. ‘I am indeed very ashamed of not telling you sooner but- but I knew that you would get upset.’ He babbled. I nodded in agreement. I mean he had a valid point which made complete sense to me.  I apologized for being so irate and went to dry my eyes and to wait for my father to finally wake up from his sleep.

‘I made it dad, just like I promised. I told you I wold make it.’ I whispered my eyes locked in to his. My father smiled ‘you did promise, and I am proud of you because of not breaking it’ a hint of sadness could be seen in his eyes. I was a little surprised though. I mean why wouldn’t I make it? Sure I had been a little further away but it didn’t mean that I didn’t care for my father. ‘Why do you think that I would not come to save you? You mean the world to me no matter what happens’ I said truthfully. He squeezed my hand and whispered ‘I know’ I was confused. He – he knew? Why if he knew why was he so cold to me after my mother passed away? ‘If you knew then- then why wouldn’t you talk to me? Why wouldn’t you talk to me when mom had passed away? You knew that I needed you the most at that time. You knew that I needed someone’s shoulder to cry on. Why weren’t you there for me?’ I cried my eyes hurt and my voice was shrill.

Bobbles had left to wait outside eons ago for me and I had started to wonder if he was asleep in the waiting area

. ‘Lily the reason I couldn’t talk to you was very simple. It was because you reminded me so much of your mother. You are just like her. I am not joking. She always loved to see new places and discover her personality and she would do whatever it would take to help people. That’s one reason. The second is that you’re her exact duplicate and whenever I would look into your eyes I would see your mother staring right back at me’. I might have become dust because I was speechless. He thought that I looked like the goddess that my mother was? And I reminded him of her? I had tears of joy and before I knew it I hung onto my father’s arm; one arm which wasn’t injured at all but just merely scratched a little.

My father told me that now that I had found him I should stay in the headquarters in which he stayed. ‘But I will come and visit you. I will come every day, okay dad?’ I said waiting for a response. After several seconds he responded with ‘you got it’ and asked me to call the nurse. I did just that and told the nurse that I would be visiting every day. Just as I was about to close the door he suddenly out of the blue said ‘Lily where is Feathers?’ I froze.

What now? How would I tell him that he was still in Fantamasia‘s entrance waiting for us? I soon decided on telling the truth. ‘Umm he- he is in – I mean outside Fantamasia... waiting for us.’ I blurted. He raised his eyebrow. ‘Hmm was it because of the rocks that can kill the extraordinary bird species?’ I nodded, ‘don’t you worry Bobble can get him to Fantamasia safely’ I said goodnight to him and closed the door. I told Bobble that he would have to get feathers into Fantamasia safely. ‘ I am sure that the fire will not affect him but still to be on the safe side I need you to make the fire come to ease. It can’t be burning hot. Do you understand’ I commanded my expression was as hard as a rock but my eyes were filled with worry. He nodded, said farewell and told me not to worry about a thing but instead I should give time to my father. I agreed with the latter and went off to the headquarters and the comfy bed that awaited my arrival.
