"Wait." A large hand gripped my shoulder, pointed phalanges catching the fabric. "How did you know there were 10 of us?" I looked up at the tall Sans. His grey eye lights seemed cold. "The Matrix family is deeply connected to the land we own. That connection runs through our very souls, passed from generation to generation, strongest for the head of the family. I used it to sense who was here." The skeletons didn't seem convinced, even suspicious. "yous a mage, ain'tcha." Hot Topic Sans growled out, red lights going out. I shook my head. "I am not, have never been, and never will be one of those disgusting creatures. My family is descended from a different branch of magic humans known as Fahrana. We can't wield magic ourselves, but are deeply connected to the magic in the world and can interact with it through a medium, such as plants and animals." Most of them seemed suspicious, though the tall two backed off and seemed to space out. They made eye contact and had a silent conversation. The rest came forward. "we've never heard of any "Fahrana" before. No records in the underground, that we know of." Blue hoodie said, narrowing his sockets. I couldn't help but wonder how if they were bone, but quickly reminded myself 'They're not bone, they're magic and dust.' I shrugged, maintaining eye contact. "Well, monsters don't seem to have ANY pre-war documents, let alone on different types of human magic, although that could be chalked up to them being destroyed by humans in the war. However, the only documents about the surface were written after, painting humans, and mages specifically, as disgusting beings of nothing but hate, while monsters are perfect angels who could do no wrong. That was proven wrong very quickly after monsters re-emerged from the mountain." They all tensed more. Seems they don't like facts that disagree with their world views. Except Scarf, Bandana Sans, and Tallest One. They're just nodding sadly. Good, open minds. "yous implying that humans haven't done nothing wrong since monsters came out?" Hot Topic Sans growled in his deep voice. I recognized a Brooklyn-like accent and wondered how he had one. Then again, he was from an alternate universe. Maybe everyone had one in his world. "Not at all," I replied, taking an open, non-aggressive stance to try appeasing him a little. "Humans and mages have always, and always will be, violent, awful creatures as a whole. Individuals, however, vary greatly. Not everyone is a good person, myself included, but that doesn't mean we're all scum. Some are, some aren't. And I've met several monsters who have been awful people and were just as racist towards humans as vice versa. Your souls may be made of hope, love, and compassion, but acting on those traits is a choice." He growled, but seemed to conceed the point. To my own, and seemingly everyone else's, surprise, Scarf spoke up next. "SHE'S RIGHT. NOT ALL MONSTERS ARE GOOD... AND NOT ALL HUMANS ARE EVIL LIKE HISTORY BOOKS UNDERGROUND SAID! KING ASGORE DESTROYED AND HID A LOT OF THINGS IN THE UNDERGROUND AFTER THE WAR. AFTER ALL, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER AND WHEN YOU CONTROL WHAT PEOPLE KNOW, IT GIVES YOU THE MOST POWER. WHICH IS WHY I HID THIS..." He opened his phone and pulled out a box from his interdimensional box. He handed it to Sans. "I FOUND IT A FEW DAYS AGO, WHILE EXPLORING THE CASTLE. IT'S SOME OF MANY HIDDEN DOCUMENTS, BUT THESE SEEM THE MOST IMPORTANT. I WAS HOPING FOR A MORE SERIOUS PLACE TO SHOW YOU, BUT THE RIGHT CONTEXT NEVER CAME." Sans seemed confused and concerned, but took the cardboard box. "um... okay, i'll check it back at the house."
"I RECOMMEND SEARCHING YOUR OWN MONARCH'S CASTLES WHEN YOU RETURN HOME. WHO KNOWS WHAT YOU MIGHT FIND." They seemed perturbed. "Well, she seems okay enough. I say we just leave each other alone like we were all doing before, and go about our business. Come on Papyrus, let's go back to our Frisk." Tall Sans said, shrugging. Tallest One (presumably Papyrus) agreed, and they disappeared. Based on the looks they were getting, though, I'd guess they aren't very well trusted. They are the most different though, so it's mostly understandable. People don't like different. The Hot Topic Duo growled, and their Papyrus finally spoke up. "THAT'S IT. I SAY WE JUST GRAB THE HUMAN AND INTERROGATE HER AS TO WHETHER SHE IS WHO SHE CLAIMS TO BE!" He took a step forward, only to trip on a tree root which rose to protect me. He got up, growling loudly in anger. "HUMAN! WHAT DID YOU DO?!" I didn't answer. His rage grew, but he was caught by an aura of black as he leaped for me. A tall woman in a black dress emerged from a cloud of shadows. She had dark skin and hair, though her eyes were light brown. I couldn't help the blush rising in my cheeks. I had always been a sucker for brown eyes despite everyone's complaints about "boring, ordinary brown eyes." Clearly they'd never seen brown eyes in sunlight. "Now Papyrus, that's no way to treat our host. She is in fact ________ Matrix, that can be confirmed by just looking at the news. She's been nothing but understanding and patient with us all since she arrived, and continues to be so. We should all show her the proper respect a noble woman should get." The others seemed uncomfortable looking at her. I could understand why. She was a beautiful woman with elegant, full curves and she certainly wasn't ugly. Some were made uncomfortable by this. She smiled at me, and came forward. "It's very kind of you to offer us continued sanctuary, even after we hid here without your knowledge. Thank you." I recognized a manipulative tone, and chuckled good-naturedly. "I'm glad to have you here. This place needs residents anyway. I just hope this doesn't become a pattern. After all, the compound has a mind of it's own and is very sensitive. I don't want it getting upset with too many tresspassers." She nodded like she knew this, then motioned for me to go on my way. "I hope you have a nice day."
"You too."
