I groaned in relief as the compound came into sight. A nostalgic smile crossed my face. "God, how long has it been?..." I mumbled as I pulled into the driveway, tired and aching from the long time sitting in the car. I approached the gate and pulled the key from the small box I kept it in. It slipped into the lock easily, and I pushed it open. Birdsong floated on the warm breeze as I walked. Something nagged at the back of my mind, however. I felt eyes on me as I progressed, but kept my head held high, my posture relaxed and confident. This is my domain. My home. The feeling intensified, so I looked towards where the sensation originated. There was rustling, and it disappeared. I saw the main village where the family is supposed to live. It was so empty... I remembered when I was younger, hearing the laughter of my siblings and cousins as they played in the grass, running along the paths. Picnics in the gardens around the houses. The gardens were still very well maintained, but my own had been left to grow for the most part as I requested. It was absolute chaos, and I loved it. The grass was tall, brushing my calves as I approached the door and rippling in the wind like water. The flowers were scattered across the beds, mixed together in colors that complemented each other and pleased the eye. A huge weeping cherry willow was in bloom, soft pinkish white blooms unfurling over a cute seating area with a small fire pit. Several smaller weeping willows were stunted in their growth over the path, their branches carefully woven into a lattice that arched overhead. Then, my pride and joy surrounding the door of my house. Several rose bushes or various colors climbing the wall and blending together. Red, blue, yellow, orange, white, purple, the list went on. It had taken years to figure out how to grow them like this without choking each other out. I had nearly given up on them multiple times. Now, seeing the fruits of my labour, I was extremely glad I hadn't. The house itself was nice. A three story round house with a porch. It almost reminded me of a gazebo. I looked over at the other houses around. Simpler, one story houses, although they were still very nice. I pulled out my house key and entered. The place looked untouched. A quick house search revealed nothing missing, moved, or touched. Looks like I have a lot of dusting to do... I started back to the gate to get my bags when I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I instinctively reached into my soul. The Matrix family had always had a deep connection to the land we owned, and we could use that to sense disturbances. I felt the presence of the animals, the plants. I became hyper aware of the breeze and the sunlight. I pushed all of that away and found what I was looking for. A group of monsters nearby, watching me. Ten scattered about. "I thought all the monsters had moved out! Why are you here?" I called out. The bushes parted like the red sea to reveal a tall skeleton monster in what looked like fake armour painted white with orange and yellow details. He also wore a black bodysuit which covered all of him except his neck and head. Over this was a pair of bright red boxing gloves, boots, and a red scarf. Next to him was a very similar skeleton, except he wore an orange hoodie and black cargo shorts, with some black converse. There were two shorter skeletons with them. One wearing a silver shirt and black pants tucked into blue boots. He wore blue gloves and a blue bandana, all of which matched the blue lights in his eyes. The other wore a blue jacket and a white shirt, matched with black basketball shorts with a long white stripe down the sides. On his feet were a pair of pink fuzzy slippers. Unlike the other, he had small white lights in his sockets. They both wore big grins, but they seemed fixed in place. They all appeared startled. "The other six of you should come out too, before I call the police!" They shock grew.

"HUMAN! THERE IS NO NEED FOR DRASTIC ACTION!" The tall scarfed one shouted, raising his hands in a surrendering gesture. I allowed him to walk towards me despite the other three's protests. He smiled happily when I relaxed and presented open body language. I was still on guard, but I didn't want conflict. The others began approaching, seeming to want to stay in a group. "WE WILL GLADLY EXPLAIN OUR PRESENCE! RIGHT SANS?" He turned to the one in the blue jacket, Sans, apparently. "yeah, sure." He glared at me.

I sighed. "Look, it's not like I'm going to kick you out if you just need a place to stay. After all, I opened my doors for all the monsters before, it wouldn't make sense to close them now. You ten just explain why you're here without me knowing, and I'll mind my own business so long as nothing illegal is happening."

"You the owner or something?" The tall, hoodied one said. I nodded, showing the same logo on my shirt as the one sent on the letter twelve days ago. The family crest. They looked between each other, then at me. I bristled, preparing to defend myself if they attacked. There was a moment of silence before the small group turned to me and Sans spoke again. "we just needed a place to stay while we do some work. we had no way of contacting you, so we couldn't notify you of our residence. most of us are scientists, and the others are here to keep the place clean, make sure we take care of ourselves because we get lost in our work, etc. if you want, you can look around and there are some people we can contact to confirm our story." I nodded. "Okay. So why are you out here instead of some lab?"

"because our work is delicate. Working around others who aren't in the know about all the details of our work, including other scientists, runs unnecessary risks. It's also a lot quieter out here, which helps with our focus."

"You've rehearsed this story pretty well. However, there is something I don't think you can answer so easily. How did you breach the multiverse and drag your counterparts into this universe?" I looked him dead in the eye. He looked shocked. "w-wha-?!"
"Don't act so surprised. It was pretty easy to figure out. Arguably, a believable excuse would be that your brothers, or cousins, however, there are too many of you who look nearly identical to be cousins, and based on what I know of monsters, too many to all have come from the same parents." My magic reached out and the six remaining in the brush were revealed. Three more Sanses and three more of the tall ones. I examined the Sanses first. One was wearing a black jacket with a cream colored fur lined hood and the same shorts. His eye lights were dark red, too dark to be the result of determination experiments like some amalgamates. Around his neck was a red collar with gold spikes, matching his sharp teeth and gold tooth. He wore black converse too. The next wore a purple vest jacket with a blue fur lined collar. Under he wore a black crop top with a blue heart. Black, finger-less gloves adorned his hands. He wore tight black pants which rode low on his pelvis. He had sneakers of a brand I didn't recognize, and a sultry grin, though there was clear malice hidden behind it. The third was much taller. He looked almost 6'4, and there was something else in his eyes. A darker, more violent look to his grey eye lights. He wore a dark brown trench coat, a white dress shirt, and black dress pants. I saw his fingers were pointed as well. I moved on to the Tall Ones. Next to Hot Topic Sans was Hot Topic Tall, with armor like the first, but instead of white, it was black. He also had sharpened teeth and elbow length fingered gloves. There were three gouges over his left eye. Next to Slut Sans was Tall, Dark and Slutty, who wore a tight, black, leather bodysuit which suggested a strong, muscled yet lean physique. The stomach was open, and where there would be open space was a pink, glowing, see-through approximation of a stomach. He had pink knee high boots, the same gloves as the Sans beside him, and I finally noticed at the top of his sternum was an upside down heart cut out to reveal the bone beneath. Then, the last was much taller than the others, like his Sans. He looked almost 10 feet tall, and more gangley. His eye sockets smaller and darker, his teeth slightly longer and uneven. He didn't wear armor, but had a white dress shirt, a red scarf, black dress pants which were barely long enough (though they were clearly modified), red dress shoes, and red gloves which only reached his wrists. He had the same darkness, yet there was a vague childish-ness. I turned back to the original group. "Boy, you sure messed up, huh? Well, I welcome you all to the compound. I'll be checking in occasionally to make sure nothing illegal is going on. Enjoy your stay." I started towards the top building.
