"1983, December 26", he wrote on the upper left corner of the piece of paper that was laying on top of his table.
It's the 4th letter he has written for Eleven.
Aside from trying to call her the past few weeks, he has been releasing his emotions more in writing, even though he doesn't even know where to send them. Hell, he doesn't even know if he will ever get to give them to her, or even see her again.
"El,
Merry Christmas!
The situation here in Hawkins has come back to normal, I think. But of course, people are still bugging Will. Even during the Snow Ball. Remember what I told you, Snow Ball? Just like what I said, it was cheesy. Dustin, Lucas, Will, and I just sat at the table, most especially during the slow dances. It was okay, though. We kept at laughing at Dustin because he was dancing wildly and then Will snorted through his nose the punch he was drinking.
I really wish you were with me that night.
I wish we could have spent this holiday together, I wish you celebrated this first with me. It's pretty cold now, I hope you're feeling warm, wherever you are.
Yours truly,
Mike"Mike picked up the paper and fold it into three and inserted in an envelope. Picking up the glue stick, he closed it and wrote at the back, Eleven, and then put it inside one of the boxes where his 3 earlier letters were placed.
He sighed and went to lie down on his fort, where a vivid memory of Eleven lives.
Holidays used to be one of his favorites but now, he just feels as if the world is ending. School became a distraction for him, and the holidays just gave him more time to think - to be alone.
"Michael!", Karen called. "Your friends are here, come here and get your snacks."
Mike lazily stood up and straightened his sweater and pants and walked upstairs as if he was counting on every step he was taking - he was very slow, lifeless, to be exact.
When he went to the kitchen, he saw Dustin, Lucas, and Will were laughing with her mom. He was just standing there and the 4 of them didn't even notice that he was part of their little circle already.
2 minutes passed, they only noticed that there was an addition to their party when Mike sneezed.
"Oh! I didn't notice you there, sweetheart." The tall freckled boy just shrugged in response, obviously not in the mood to interact. Karen took a tray and put the plate of cookies and 4 glasses of milk on it and gave them to Mike afterwards.
"Thanks, Mom.", he thanked her mom genuinely. "Anytime.", she answered and hugged her only son. Karen was trying to become a little lenient and at the same time, careful, on Mike, knowing that something was definitely bothering him. She didn't force him to share this time because she knows it will just push her further away from him. "Go ahead and have some fun with your friends. I'll just call you again when it's time for dinner.", this time, Mike hugged back.
Mike picked up the tray and the three boys followed him downstairs. Setting down the tray on the coffee table, Dustin chuckled, "You're such a Mama's boy, Wheeler." Mike looked back at his curly haired friend, "Says the one whose mother calls him, "Dusty" and "Baby" on a daily basis." The three boys, aside from Dustin, chuckled. Dustin replied mockingly, "Ha. Ha. Very funny."
The four boys went around the wooden table where the board games were stacked, waiting for their opportunity to be picked.
"So... what do you guys wanna play?", Mike asked. The three boys laughed at Mike's question, there was obviously one answer. "Psh. Like we play other shit. Come on, lay down the Dungeons and Dragons."
They all sat down and deep inside, Mike was thankful for the moment like this, he was getting distracted again - he was getting distracted from being sad.
