Dipper and Wirt walked mostly in silence into the small town, appart from the occasional comment about something weird Dipper had seen on the way. It was mostly just to break the silence though, Wirt didn't seem to have any conversation starters himself.
"Here we are!" Smiled Dipper in relief, running forwards a bit so it didn't seem like he had said it too soon just because it was awkward.
They had come into a clearing with a parking lot scribbled on the floor, and few rusted and mud coverd cars were dotted around, same ones that were always there and in the same spots they always were.
In the center was what looked like a large fallen redwood trunk, decorated with a large sign reading "Greasy's Diner" above it. Honestly the place looked like it was falling appart, but there was something endearing about it.
Dipper and Wirt walked along side by side along the cracked path and up the steps to the front door, Dipper pushing it open.
It was like walking into a wall of food, the scent of pancakes and waffles mingled in the air with a sickly sweet but warm aroma.
It was only now that Wirt realised how hungry he was, mouth falling open slightly at the sight and smell of all the sweet breakfast food. All of a sudden his stomach made a huge growling noise and his face went bright red with embarrassment.
Dipper couldn't help the snort that escaped him, nor the following laugh.
"Hungry by any chance?"Wirt smiled with a small but genuinely laugh, the first proper laugh or smile he had given since waking up.
"That obvious?"
"Eh just a little" Dipper smirked and looked around for a free booth for them to sit at, making his way to the one him and Mabel usually sat at.
The inside of the Diner matched the outside. It had wooden walls decorated with trinkets and photos from the down, and a small jukebox in the corner played some songs that neither of them had heard of.
They sat down in the possibly leather, light brown seats across from eachother. They hadn't been sat down for even a minute when two plates of waffles slid in front of them.
"Your regular and my recommendation for your little friend" smiled the older woman at the end of the table, brushing her hand on the greasy apron she wore, giving the two a wink which really looked more like a blink with her one close eye that was smeared with bright blue eyeshadow.
"Thanks lazy susan" smiled dipper as she walked away, watching for a moment before looking back at Wirt whose face had lit up at the sight of food in front of him.
"We all come here all the time" grinned Dipper, cutting off a corner of a maple waffle.
Wirt looked up at him with a mouthful of a white chocolate and fudge waffle.
"Honestly I'm not surprised, this is the best thing I've ever tasted" he said, waffle filled cheeks bunching up like a hampsters.
"Have you ever been to gravity falls before?" Asked Dipper, taking a bite of his own waffle. Still so good.
Wirt frowned and shook his head.
"If we- I have, then I don't remember it".
"Oh right yeah you have a point". Dipper felt the silence fall between them again. He wanted to help so badly but he didn't really know how to. Something inside him wanted to reach out and embrace him in a hug but he stopped himself, biting his lip anxiously.
"What was he like..? Greg I mean" Asked Dipper, breaking the silence and watching a sad smile cross Wirts face.
"An idiot, but he's sweet and always cheers me up, god knows how he puts up with me.. I'm not a very good brother" he chuckled sadly, poking his fork into the waffle on the table in front of him.
"Mabels exactly the same" smiled Dipper. "..We'll find him"
"Maybe.. I don't know what I'll do if we dont".
"I can take you down to where I found you after this if you want?"
Wirt nodded, "I'd really appreciate it, but I'm gonna eat my waffle first", his stomach growled loudly in agreement and he gave a nervous laugh as he met Dippers gaze, the other boy seemingly beaming at him with wide curious eyes.
"Can I ask you something?" Dipper blinked and broke his gaze away briefly before returning it.
"Do you remember anything that you like at all? Hobbies and things?"Wirt paused and brought a hand up to rub the back of his neck nervously.
"I.. I play clarinet" he bit his lip and how cringey it sounded. Although he didn't remember much, he knew it wasn't exactly the coolest instrument he could play.
"You?""Mystery hunting".
Wirt raised an eyebrow with a snort.
"Hey it's no weirder than clarinet" Laughed Dipper, waving a peice of waffle on a fork in front of Wirts face as he began to laugh too.
The two boys looked at eachother for a few seconds, both smiling, cheeks dusted with red.
Dipper blinked and looked away as he began to feel his face heat up in embarrassment, jumping too his feet and grabbing two takeaway boxes from the side. He tipped the remains of each of their waffles into each box before reaching up and adjusting the blue and white cap on his head.
"Let's go find your brother"
