Elsa's POV
I was really shocked to meet Mr. Carlton again, I wasn't expecting to see him back for the rest of my life but I guessed things happened for a reason. I didn't know those reasons but I was sure they had to be important. I threw my phone on the chair and stripped from my sweaty clothes and headed towards the shower where I was about to become the most popular celebrity on earth. Before I could get under the shower I heard my phone vibrated. I rushed back to the chair I left it on thinking that Jessie messaged me, I missed her so much.
"Hey, did you heard what happened!"
My friend, Rose texted me asking if I heard what happened, I had no idea what she was talking about. The first thought that came to my mind was probably some rumor she wanted to know if I caught up on.
"No, what?" I blatantly responded to her text and waited to hear about the rumor that I probably wouldn't care about.
"Jessie is in the hospital, she got admitted because she started to puke blood and her asthma started to act up "
After I read that message my thoughts were shattered. I didn't know what to do, I dropped my phone and it fell onto the hard floor, there goes my phone screen. My body became numb and my fingers felt lifeless, I was lost in a massive world of blank emotions which severely impacted my reaction to Jes being in the hospital.
My heart rate increased and my pressure I could tell went up to the max and didn't plan on going down. I pulled on a sweatshirt and pants, grabbed my purse and ran out of my apartment. I didn't even worry to see if I looked like a tidy human being. I was in a hurry because my girlfriend was in the hospital.
"Which hospital is she at?" As I got in the cab. My fingers trembled while I moved them across my now cracked screen to messaged back Rose and ask her which hospital Jessie was in. I really didn't blame myself for not knowing that Jessie got admitted in the hospital. Her family never supported her being gay and they never liked me either so none of them wouldn't be concerned to hit me up if something happened to Jessie. Seconds later my phone vibrated again, Rose messaged me back so I could know which hospital Jessie was at.
"Her parents took her to Valmore Hospital" Rose quickly replied to me. I didn't know how I was supposed to see Jessie if her parents were there. They would never let me get close to her when they're around and I was sure they already started to blame me; that I was the one who made Jessie ended up in the hospital.
As soon as I walked through the hospital's door that feeling of fright prevailed me. I was surrounded by crying, screaming, sad tired faces, emergency patients and the horrible smell of medicine. I walked over to the receptionist nurse with the intention of asking her which room Jessie was in and if any guests were with her at that moment. It was guest visiting hours so I guessed I came at the right time.
"Hi, goodnight can you please tell me which room Jessie Govana Machel is in?" I didn't ask the other part of the question that I was supposed to, I instead ended up asking only half of the question. But I was too distracted to even rephrase it.
When the nurse looked at me, her disgusted facial expression gave me the hint that I looked like a careless vagrant with a classy British accent. Her confused voice made me felt ashamed because I obviously looked like a piece of shit. I didn't get the chance to take a shower or even comb my hair. My makeup from this morning was a bit smudged around my eyes and my foundation was sticky.
"Umm, just give me a few minutes," the nurse said. I started to get even more worried about Jessie, what if she wasn't going to be okay. I waited impatiently while the nurse checked through the list for Jessie's name. The reflection of the room's light on the nurse's spectacle made it hard for me to know if she was cross eyeing me as she was checking through the list. I felt as if she stared at me quite often thinking I might pull out a gun or something, after all, I did rush in there looking like hell. By the time the nurse was finished checking through the list the guest visiting time was nearly up, so I didn't have much time on my hands. I got the message late so I ended up being late.
"Yes, Miss. Machel is in room 201, enter the door on your left and go straight down, then use the first turn on your right and the second room to your right is room 201." I looked at the Nurse like what the fuck did she just said because I was so busy wondering how Jessie was doing, I didn't even pay attention. Well since I forgot to ask her if Jessie had any guest at that time, I instead made my way through the door; that was the only thing I remembered her saying, and I was too prideful to let her repeat the directions. I made my way down the broad white lighted hall. It felt as if I was in a horror movie. You know those ones with the lonely hospital halls and then suddenly, the lights dim, and you start to hear screams coming out of the walls and shit like that.
I saw no one sitting in the chairs, seemed like everyone was in the patient's rooms. The place was completely calm and quiet the only thing I heard was the AC fans making its shaky noise. I felt as if I was walking for nearly half an hour until I heard someone sneezed. I turned to my right and saw a doctor making her way down the first turn.
I quickly walked up behind her to ask for help.
"Excuse me, Doctor!" I shouted rather too loudly to get her attention, my voice echoed around the wide hall and bounced back to leave a tip of embarrassment to my ears. She turned around and as soon as she saw me her eyes widened and brows squeezed together like I was the last thing she expected to see that night. I knew I looked like a mess but I really needed to see Jessie.
"Yes, how can I help you?" she responded reluctantly. She tried her best not to make eye contact with me, I didn't blame her though, even I wouldn't have made eye contact with myself. She was still looking at me worried as if I had escaped from a mental asylum. I felt even more embarrassed, I should have really left home looking like what was considered to be decent.
"I'm sorry to bother you but can you please direct me to room 201?" She didn't hesitate to quickly answer me since she wanted to get rid of me as soon as she could, what a doctor she was. I wondered if she treated everyone that came in there looking like they were dropped off by a hurricane, like that.
"Just walk down this same hall and look there and you'll see room 201'" she pointed her finger to a room door which didn't look so hard to find now that I looked at the navigation. I said thank you and made my way past her, I could have felt her staring at me as I walked past her, but what the fuck it's not like I cared anymore because I was finally going to see Jessie. I stood in front of the room's door afraid to go in. I was afraid to clash with her parents, that was the last thing I wanted to happen. I took a deep breath in and out about three times before I could have gained the courage to open the door and walked in as if none of them were in there.
The door had no above window that I could had seen through and that shit pissed me off. I placed my hand on the doorknob and turned it slowly so it wouldn't make any noise. I wanted to see if I could be sneaky but as soon as I turned the knob and opened the door I was greeted by the face of Jessie's mom. Apparently, she was walking out of the room at the same time I opened the door. I felt my heart dropped and I got cold like I was dead. The surprised facial expression on her face whipped me up and I couldn't find my voice at that moment to say "Hello" because I was too petrified.
