Clang!

I grunted in a very unladylike way, rolling over to the other side of my bed, hoping the noise would go away.

Brumm, brumm, brumm!

I placed a pillow over my head before grabbing the blanket and covering it over my head.

Badum tish!

Deciding that I am not going to get anymore sleep, I rolled off my bed. I ran out of my room and down the hall, to my brother's room. Although his room is right next to mine, his room's door required some walking. Banging on his door a few times, the music finally stopped. I could hear my brother's steps towards the door and his hand on the doorknob, twisting it open.

"Morning dear brother. Your neighbor would like to file a complaint," I said as soon as I saw his face.

"Well, in that case, I am deeply sorry. I will do anything to make up for it," he replied, playing along.

I laughed. Ah, the good times we had. I skipped downstairs to see what was for breakfast. Instead, I found a sticky note that read;

Your dad and I have gone job hunting. We will be back before dinner. There is bread on the table, you two can eat that. Take care of lunch yourselves.

Love you two,

Mom

I guess I have the whole house to myself today. Whatever shall I do?

But this belly needs to be filled first.

I grabbed a jar of Nutella and hastily spread it on two slices of bread. Colin came down and spread Nutella with peanut butter, saying that peanut butter and jelly do not go well together. His words, not mine. I was not a fan of PB, but I love Nutella.

"Mmm, that was good," Colin said, stretching his arms behind his head.

I ended up doing the dishes as we always rock-paper-scissored our way through who was washing. Well, he had to do the laundry so I was not that at all mad.

Done with chores, I flopped down on the couch, turning on the television. The first channel that popped up was Nickelodeon. Laughing, Colin made himself comfortable on the other couch, when the doorbell rang.

"I'll get it," I volunteered. I walked to the door, revealing a woman and a teenage girl and a young boy, which I was assuming as the woman's kid. The woman looked like she was in her late 30s, but since she had a teenage daughter I would say she was much older. She had a brunette bob cut, with brown eyes and a sharp nose. Her narrow bloodless lips curled up at the edges. Her daughter was slightly taller than I was. She had her mother's eyes, hair color, and sharp nose, but not her soft eyes. Instead, she had this curious glint in her eyes, scanning our front yard and the outside of our house in wonder. As for her brother, the only reason why I was sure that he was part of the family was his eyes and hair. Otherwise, I would assume he was a family friend. I suddenly felt conscious that I was in my unicorn onesie.

"Hello dear, sorry if you find it late, but we would like to visit our new neighbors even though you guys have moved in for about a month now," the lady said. "We live next door." She pointed to the beautiful white house to the left of ours to prove her point. I stared at her in shock for what felt like forever until she waved a hand in front of my face. I snapped out of my shock.

"Oh it's okay, we were busy this past month. Would you like to come in?" I asked politely. The woman smiled and accepted my offer. I turned around and walked in, the three of them following me. I yelled for Colin, making the three of them jump a little.

"Dangit baby sis, I'm just in the next room," Colin complained. Yes, he calls me 'baby sis'. He claims it was because I was younger and still had some baby fat present. I just think of it as a nice way of saying I was chubby and fat, which was completely excusable. Also, it made me feel young. He turned to face me before halting in his steps, his face showing the same shock as I did when I opened the door.

"Our neighbors," I introduced, pointing at the family behind me.

"Oh and this is for you and your family," the woman passed us a small bag, containing what I was assuming as goodies. Someone give them a 'Best Neighbor Ever' award. In all of our years, we never had a neighbor visit. We just visited others. The only people that came over were family friends, and that was once in a blue moon. That was probably why Colin was so shocked.

"Thank you so much. You don't know how much we appreciate this. We never had a neighbor visit before," Colin echoed my thoughts.

"My name is Raelynn, but people usually call me Rae," I said. "And this is my brother Colin."

"I am Jenn Lieberson. You can call me Jenn." I smiled. Beautiful name for such a kind lady. "And these are my children, Silvana and Axel." Silvana nodded at me.

"You can call me Sil for short," Silvana said. "But please don't call me Vana or Van."

"Gotcha Silv," I said.

The silence and smile showed that Silv was okay with that name. Colin informed Jenn that our parents were not around as she asked for our parents. In realization, Jenn invited our family for dinner tonight and we agreed. They left our house, promising to see us later.

Colin had a grin on his face. He looked at me and said, "I can't wait for tonight." before going upstairs. I was confused. Yes, I got to admit I was excited but I was a little skeptical of Colin's behavior. He was always so calm about everything, while I freak out over the smallest things.

"Oh my gosh I am so excited," I squealed to no one in particular. A little ritual I do, I guess. The lock in the door jingled and my parents came in.

"Hi, Mom. Hi, Dad. You guys are early, Colin was about to order the Chinese for lunch," I told them.

"Thanks, cupcake, we'll get the usual," Dad replied while Mom walked up the stairs.

"Oh and by the way, our kind neighbors invited us over for dinner tonight," I informed them. The biggest bomb dropped yet. I could tell them that the world was going to end tomorrow and they would still go about their day. With this news, it was as if time froze. Mom halted in her tracks and Dad stared at me. Neighbors have this unknown effect on my family.

"I'm not kidding, Dad," I insisted.

"Neighbor's for dinner?" Dad asked, evidently still in astonishment. No dad jokes. This was not normal.

"Yes, Dad. Once in a lifetime experience. Tonight," I said slowly and clearly, hoping not to make Dad go into overdrive.

"Oh my gosh Liz we have to get ready!" Dad exclaimed, making Mom and I jump. Liz is the nickname for Mom, whose name was actually Elizabeth.

I giggled. Today is going to be a fun day.
