It didn't really take me long to get ready to push off. I do the little braids out of some chunks of hair and place them under my ponytail, leaving my bangs to fall naturally, as per usual. I wasn't going to make a big deal about the latest first day of school, after all.
I pick up my backpack, loosely filled with supplies and textbooks and head out to the bus stop.
The other kids there seem to be going to Ylisse High too, judging from the crests on their blazers. It was shaped like a shield, with five circles set into the lightly decorated surface. It's always struck me as a little odd.
Looking around, a few people stand out. A tall blonde girl is standing by the shelter...is she praying? A very refined-looking guy with long, combed blue hair is hitting on a cluster of disgusted-looking girls--as in all of them at once. A girl with short red hair and a tough-looking face executes a perfect bodycheck on a guy with blonde hair, tan skin, huge muscles and a very loud, happy voice.
And these people will probably be my classmates.
Just as I was thinking that, the bus rolls in and everyone gets on, trying to tag a seat. I've only just arrived, so I curse luck and start hopelessly glancing around for an empty spot. Finally, I find one--which is right beside a kind of cute blue haired boy. I think I've seen him around, so he probably lives nearby. Something about him seems familiar...
Well, it's either sit beside the mystery guy or stand. I choose mystery guy.
"Hey, is this seat taken?" I ask, then curse myself for making it sound like a pickup line. Thankfully, he doesn't seem to pick up on it, and smiles kindly.
"No, go ahead!" I smile back and sit quietly. After a while, he speaks again, taking his eyes off the window. "You're new here, right? I'm Chrom," he says.
"Uh... Yeah, actually. How'd you know?" What is he, some sort of detective?!?!
"Well, for one thing, your blazer. Also, I know everyone in the sophomore year, and you look around that age," he replies. I nod, smiling. This guy seems pretty nice.
"I'm Becca," I say. "I just moved here." As the bus jolts to a stop and everyone starts getting up, Chrome smiles again.
"Nice to meet you, Becca! Hope we have some classes together!" He waves one final time, then is washed away in a sea of students.
Damn. Didn't I say I wouldn't make too many connections here?
