I head back to my locker after an odd but enjoyable Chem class, unwrapping a lemon sherbert Dad must have slipped into my pocket. He does know my tastes, at least!
When I round the corner to my locker, something feels... off. Suddenly, I see a ginger head kneeling so it's at eye level with my lock!
I roll up a piece of paper, walk over, and smack him upside the head with it.
The thief rolls over, palms on the ground to steady him. His emerald eyes are wide with surprise, but his mouth admirably stays closed, keeping a toothpick aloft. He has a black bandana around his for head, keeping some of the long orange hair out. He's wearing a black jacket-not the blazer, I notice--a dark gray T-shirt, black jeans and runners.
"Hey! That was totally unnecessary!" he complains. My mouth opens and shuts a few times as I try to form sentences that don't contain curses.
"Unnecessary?!?! You were trying to steal from my locker!" I shout. He sniffs, getting up with the grace and laziness of a cat.
"I just wanted some sweets, okay? I'm running low." He opens the side of his jacket to reveal the inside covered in multitudes of candies.
"...You and I have different definition of 'running low,' er..."
"Gaius. The name's Gaius," Ginger says. I can't help it--I smile. Why does it seem to be impossible to stay mad at this guy?
I put my hand into my pocket and take out a few extra lemon sherberts.
"Here. Take these. They last for a while, so they should be able to take you through the next period without you having to steal anything." He eagerly swipes them from my hand with a smile. As the warning bell rings, I smile at him. "I'm Becca, by the way. Nice to meet you!"
