It had been a couple nights since I had arrived at the pack and I was feeling my strength coming back. I was still weak but my wolf was becoming easier to hear and connect with. I still hadn't turned but I felt her more.
Exodus had avoided me since that night and I hadn't seen him.
I hadn't left the room either, Millie and Alex came and saw me and sat with me but as I was still silent, the conversation was lacking.
One evening I had planned to go see Exodus and as if timing was perfect, someone mind linked me. "Come to Alpha Exodus' office please, he would like you to see something." A voice came.
I wasn't sure who it was as I didn't recognise the voice.
I didn't reply but I got up from the bed and went out of the room down to where his office was. Thankfully, most of the pack were outside enjoying the evening sky.
As I went to the office door, I tapped lightly before opening the door and stepping inside.
As my eyes adjusted, I scanned the room to see Exodus on the sofa with another girl on his lap. She must have summoned me.
He obviously felt the mate bond and sensed I was there.
He pushed the other girl off his lap before turning back to me.
His eyes seemed panicked and guilty. Tears rushed to my eyes as he got to his feet and stepped closer. "Genesis, what are you doing here?" he asked, his facial features seemed stiff.
He was annoyed.
"I wanted her to see that we belong together." The girl said, sitting on the sofa twirling her hair around her thumb and forefinger.
I thought he wanted to be with her. I couldn't have blamed him though, she was beautiful and not damaged like I was.
Exodus looked back at her and growled.
She cowered before getting up and walking over to her and rubbing herself against his arm. His face cringed as my body froze.
"That was none of your concern. I don't belong to you, nor do I belong to anyone." He roared. Her face pouted before she pulled him closer. "Come on Exodus. Don't tell me you look at her and see a Luna." She laughed, staring at me up and down.
In that moment, I broke all over again.
What hurt the most was that I knew she was right. No one could look at me and see a Luna. I was weak, I was nothing. Everything my parents had taught me had meant nothing.
If they saw me, they wouldn't have been proud.
These thoughts clouded my mind and broke my soul.
Exodus didn't disagree with the girl but merely ordered her to leave using his Alpha voice. As she left she pushed passed me before slamming the door making me flinch.
Exodus sighed before going to sit at his desk.
I stayed in my place and kept my eyes fixated on the floor.
"Genesis, what happened to you?" he finally asked. He didn't care, I thought.
He had only been with another girl twenty seconds ago, I thought I meant nothing to him.
I felt the tears fell down my face and a small whimper escape my lips.
Exodus stood up, launching his chair into the book shelf behind him. "Stop the tears. After years of imagining my mate and Luna. I didn't picture you. Why me?" he groaned.
The second he said it, his eyes dropped. He instantly regretted what he said but my heart had already shattered. I never wanted any of this.
This wasn't the life I had imagined. I imagined growing up in my home with my parents. I imagined meeting my mate and having children of my own.
I never imagined that my parents were going to be slaughtered in front of me. I never imagined that I was going to be taken from my home and taken to hell.
I never imagined spending years in a cell suffering abuse of any bored rogue.
I never imagined having to take the life of an innocent to save my own.
This wasn't the life that I had wanted.
I was done.
No more tears. No more weakness.
I turned around and left the room, ignoring his calls for me. He didn't bother coming to check on me that night. It was if he didn't care.
I went back to my room and waited until night came and it was dark.
Finally, the moon rose and the pack house became silent.
I grabbed a notebook and pen and constructed my message for Exodus.
Alpha Exodus,
I know I wasn't the mate you had hoped for and I can assure you that this wasn't the life I had imagined for myself. I wasn't always like this, scared of everything and everyone. I had a happy life before Aeron Black and his rogues came in and ruined my life. They took me from my home and broke me. They killed my parents and crushed my soul.
After escaping, I thought I could live here with you and be happy with my mate but this isn't fair on you and it isn't fair on me. We both deserve a fighting chance and I will not fight for someone who will not fight for me.
Much regret,
Genesis Wolfe
