When they awoke the next morning, there was no tension in the air whatsoever like there had been outside of Sam's apartment. Sam went to go get coffee and pancakes while Dean and Faith tried to narrow down where John was. They had zero leads and this town was as clean as an ICU room in a hospital. Sam came back with more bags with food than they probably needed. It turns out that the place he went to have a buy two get two free deals, so Sam got it. They each had three pancakes, two hash browns, and a large cup of orange juice.
"So you got anything?" Sam asked his mouth full of pancake.
"Wait, Sam, where's the coffee?" Faith asked, confusion lurking on her face.
"You wanted coffee?" Sam said, surprised.
Dean answered for her, "Yeah, so where is it?"
"Well, I kinda forgot to get it, but I got orange juice. Yum..." Sam replied, drinking his orange juice awkwardly. Dean and Faith both sighed and shook their heads.
"Sammy, if there is one you always need to get while you're out on a food run, it's coffee," Dean said.
"I thought it was pie," Sam asked.
"Well that too, but coffee is our fuel," Dean exclaimed.
"It's fine, just Sam next time, get coffee," Faith said.

Faith was checking her cell phone when she gasped in surprise and from the look on her face, Dean knew something wasn't right.
"What is it," he asked.
"Dad called me," she answered staring down at her phone.
"Did he leave a message?" Sam asked.
"Yeah, hold on let me put it on speaker," she said setting her phone down on the table.
The message started to play and they all heard John's voice on the other end, "Faith, Dean I know that I haven't been around these last few weeks, but it's been dangerous. I don't know if you two went and got Sam, but if you did then I'm sure that all of you have figured out what I'm hunting. I finally got a lead on the demon. And I also got a name, Azazel. The last I heard the demon was in Black Water Ridge, Wyoming. That's where I am now. Do not come after me. Faith, Dean, do not come after me! If I'm being followed, which I'm pretty sure I am, I don't want you in the middle. Stay in Omaha or go to Bobby's. At least you'll be safe. And Faith, I figured out your dreams. Why they're happening to you. I got it out of a demon two weeks ago. Azazel has tied your mind to him; somehow, he's sending you dreams to torture you until you break. I don't know why, but the demon said it was because you were chosen, that you're special. I don't know what it means, but it can't be good so Dean, keep your sister awake. Do not let her fall asleep. If she does, then we could lose her all together. And Sam if you're there, I am so sorry." Everyone was looking at the phone in utter silence.
"When did he call?" Dean asked.
Faith checked the date on her phone, "Last night, at midnight."
Sam was the first to burst into flames, "What the hell did he mean, that's he's sorry? Sorry for what? He can't just leave a message like that!"
"Well, he just did so shut up for a minute," Dean yelled at him. He was staring at Faith. She hadn't said a single word after the message ended. The all knew what she was thinking about.
"I'll be back, don't wait up for me," she said as she headed towards the door.
"Wait, where are you going?" Sam asked. The door slammed before he heard her answer. "I'm going after her," Sam stated.
"Don't, you'll only piss her off. Trust me Sam, I know. She needs to be alone, so leave her alone," Dean was glaring at him. Sam walked out the door, darting after his sister in the dark of the night.

Faith had turned right when she walked out that door, so Sam went to the right. He walked all the way down the row of motel rooms and couldn't find her. He finally was on the edge of the road when he saw her walking down the side of the road. He walked up behind her. He never saw it coming. His face suddenly felt this white-hot pain as he twisted his head to the right. She had punched him in his face.
"I figured you would follow me, Sam. Dean knows better now than to follow me after that. Now go back to the motel room." Sam's lip was split and bleeding from the punch.
"No. Faith, you can't keep something like this in you. It'll tear you apart from the inside out. So what the demon said you're special. That might be a good thing for us. Dad's been wrong before and he's wrong about this. We will figure this out together as we always have."
Faith stared him down, "You've got to be kidding me. Sam, you've never been there for me. It's always been me, Dean, and Dad. Dean's the one who helped me all those nights after the dreams. Dad's the one who actually found something out about the dreams, but you. You just pop into the middle of a crisis and then ask what's wrong with me. It's obvious Sam, I'm pissed at you. I will never forgive you for walking out on us, on me. Now go back to the motel and don't follow me ever again or I swear, next time it'll be more than a split lip." She kept walking forward leaving Sam, bloody and alone.
Sam returned to the motel room with a look of grim. Dean was lying in his bed when Sam walked in the door.
"She punched you, didn't she? She punched me one night and then Dad the next. I told you she needed to be alone."
Sam gave Dean his "yeah-you-told-me-so" look before replying, "Dude, she split my lip."
Dean looked at Sam and smiled, "That's why she's the best vampire-slayer out there. She didn't even flinch before you came right up behind her, right? That girl is our sister."
Sam raised his eyebrows and gave out an "hmm." Sam went and sat on his own bed; Faith slept in the same bed as Dean, probably because she was still mad at him. At least I have the whole bed to myself, Sam thought.
"She'll be back before midnight, don't worry about her," Dean told him.
"It's not her that I'm worried about." It's true, Sam was more worried about where John was and what he meant by I'm sorry. He knows Faith can take care of herself. "So what are we gonna do about Dad?" Sam asked.
"Well, for starters, we're bringing you back to Stanford. And then, we're gonna find the son of a bitch. Then we're gonna kill the demon, any questions?"
"Yeah, why in the hell do I have to go back to school? I'm in this now, there's no point in sending me back and you know it," Sam yelled.
Dean raised his hand to his face and ran his fingers through his hair, "Let's put it this way Sammy, I'm bringing you back to Stanford. Faith's nightmares are worse than before and I think I know why. You. It's always been you, so I think it's better if you just got the hell away from her, don't you?" Dean stared at Sam.
"No, I don't. I think that if I find a way to fix what I did, then maybe the nightmares will get better. And Dean, you know the demon's sending her dreams. How can you be so sure that I'm making it worse?"
Dean turned his back on Sam and laughed, "Are you kidding me, Sam? Really, we've got to go through this again. You don't think it's weird that the demon started sending her dreams immediately after you left us because I do. I know Faith better than you, hell so doesn't Dad, so don't think you know what's best for her. Because you don't know and you never will." Sam was staring at his hands.
He looked up with a pleading face, "Please, just give me a chance to fix it. If it doesn't work then you can send me back, but please just one chance."
Dean looked down in silence before he finally said, "Fine, but if you make it worse, then I'll shoot you, you got me Sam?" Sam nodded his head and began to fall asleep.
