"Mom! Do you have my cap and gown ready?" I yelled from the bathroom upstairs.
"Yes, Hae Won! Come down when you are ready!" my mother yelled back.
Today was the day. The day of my graduation. The day I say goodbye to my childhood friends as we continue on with our lives. Who knows what the future has in store for all of us? But today was a day to celebrate our completion of grade school and continue on... to go to more school.
I looked at the clock: 6:37. We had to leave at seven and arrive to school before 7:30. Just enough time for me to finish up my makeup and put on my dress.
Mom came upstairs to my room and said, "What a beautiful young girl you are. I can't believe you're already graduating! It felt like yesterday you were just a tiny little girl. Look how much you've grown!"
"Oh, mom! It's okay, I'll still be your little girl! I won't go anywhere yet!" I replied.
I looked at my dress hanging on the back of my bedroom door. A white flowy laced dress with rhinestones along its front. It was something I'd treasure for a very long time. But you wanna know why? My mom and I made it. It took several months to put together because I wanted it to be perfect, and it's exactly how I imagined it to be.
I finished up curling my hair and went to put on the dress. I looked at myself in the mirror and admired myself because this is how I always dreamt of looking like on graduation day.
I closed my eyes and smiled.
In the distance, I heard a muffled yell. Something like, "Wake up!" and I felt so confused.
"Wake up, Hae Won! Wake up!" my mother yelled.
"What's going on? What happened?" I asked in a panicked voice.
"It's already 6:15! We have to leave at 7:00! You take ten years to get ready! Pali-pali! (Hurry up!)"
I guess I was really dreaming.
I dashed to the bathroom, peed as fast as I could. I was panicking too much that I forgot to wash my hands.
I decided to just throw on a natural full face of makeup. But you can't forget that highlighter! So I dug through my makeup bag to find my highlighter. After a solid two minutes of digging for my highlighter, I finally found it. I placed it on the bathroom counter. I accidentally placed it too close to the edge.
Guess what happened? My favorite highlighter dropped on the floor and broke.
"NO!" I screamed.
I picked it up and opened it. So many broken pieces of SORROW. My insides were SCREAMING with sadness as I stared at it. I convinced myself that there was no more time for crying like a baby since it was already 6:49. So I used the highlighter anyways, but it still was blinding!
I finished up and went to go put on the dress. Yes the same dress that was in the dream. But I didn't look as good in it than I was in my dream. Oh, well. I still look decent enough!
I raced downstairs to go get my cap and gown. Mom and dad looked at me in admiration.
"Oh look at my daughter! Look how beautiful she is!" dad said with joy.
"I agree! But what else should we look at? THE TIME. It's already 7:06! Let's get to the car, people!" mom said.
On our way to school, I texted our group chat which consisted of me, Soo Yun, Mi Sun, Jungkook, and Jimin.
----------
Hae Won: guys! im on my way i woke up hella late :'(
Mi Sun: Ooh girlll hurry up! We're waiting!
Jungkook: i cant wait to see you ;)))
Jimin: back off jungkook or ill make you fall off the stage later >:(
Soo Yun: YOU TWO! Shut up! Just hurry here Hae Won! I bet you'll slayyy
----------
Got to school at 7:19. I see my friends waving to me in the distance and I race to them, being careful of my steps in my five inch heels.
Jungkook and Jimin stare at me like there's no tomorrow.
"Hey! Snap out of it, you dorks!" I screamed.
"Ah, sorry. It's just that you look really good." Jungkook says.
"I disagree. You look BEAUTIFUL." Jimin said with confidence.
"Move out of the way losers!" Mi Sun says as her and Soo Yun push them out of the way.
"Hae Won! You're so pretty, oh my gosh!"
"Take a picture of us!" Mi Sun asks Jungkook.
Jungkook takes the picture and smiles as he counts to three.
"Here you go! And this is what three rats in dresses look like!" he says.
"Shut up Jungkook! You just said I looked good earlier!" I complained as I rolled my eyes.
"Graduating students, please head to the gymnasium and take your seats." the teacher says over the intercom.
~Fast forward one hour~
"Park Jimin!" the teacher announces.
"Jeon Jungkook!"
"Ha Soo Yun!"
"Kim Mi Sun!"
It was about to be my turn. Am I ready to shake their hands, receive my diploma, and graduate from this school?
Hell yeah.
"Ji Hae Won!"
I walk that stage like a queen, receive my diploma like a queen, and shake their hands like a queen.
We graduated. We survived those school years together! Now it's time for us to part ways. This has been a hell of a journey. But guess what?
This isn't the end. It's the beginning.
