"Alright, you two haul her up, I'll guard the front, Fiona you can guard the back," Janice commanded hastily.
Jake and another boy helped the girl up by putting themselves under her shoulders.
She seemed to be about 12 to 13, Jake estimated that she might be about 5 feet tall as well. She weighed nearly as much as a sheet of paper. The girl was pale and clearly malnourished. He noticed her leg from mid-thigh down was covered in thick black blood.
"Jesus," he whispered
Janice had her eyes glued and pasted onto the road ahead, noticing every little thing that moved in the wind.
A slender old father lumbered from a side street onto the main road. Janice didn't even feel slightly threatened. She waited until the group was near the monster and she swung her metal bat into its soft skull squirting a filthy red onto the littered ground.
"Everything good Fi'?" She asked.
"Yeah, not much."
Janice grunted and she could see a kid from the library roof watching them. Today had been warm for a morning in March. She sighed as they reached the library.
"Okay, take her to Clarence. Let him figure out all that medical stuff," Janice said carefully not to wake the girl.
"It'll be easier if I just bring him down to a lower floor," Henry said, the other boy, and walked off.
Jake breathed above the girl as she laid on a bench. She was out cold. Jake felt her neck just to make sure she still had a pulse, that she did. He analyzed her leg with his eyes, it almost looked like a stab wound. Fortunately, it didn't seem too deep but it was bleeding a lot. Maybe it hit an artery, he thought.
He worried for this girl he didn't even know. Weird.
