Matt's POV
As we walk in, I immediately notice the amount of girls compared to boys. I'd say about 10 boys to around 17 girls. Woah boy. Rachel and I went over this last night. We would like to adopt a girl and a boy if we can, but Jen does want more than one girl if possible. I see Rache's beautiful little eyes sparkle. That's when I see them. Four little girls, the older two looking around 10/11, but the younger two looking about 5/6. The older two are trying to wrangle the younger two. Well, one is. The other is nose deep in a book I can only assume to be some Harry Potter book. The other, the responsible one looks around the room and I can tell that she sees me, but she quickly looks elsewhere. We walk over. "Hi!" Rachel says. "Hi!" The responsible one says. She elbows book girl, who looks up and freaks out "Maya, just say hi and introduce us!" The responsible one whispers to the one apparently named Maya. She says "H-hi. I'm Maya, this is Cassie," she points to one little girl "this is Emily," she points to the responsible one "and that's Lily" she points to the one that looks like an angel. Emily can see that Maya's struggling, so she takes over "Maya and I are 12 and Cassie and Lily are 6. Cassie and Maya are biological sisters, and Lily and I are biological sisters, but we're all pretty much sisters, if that makes sense." Emily says. She talks fast. It's hard to tell what she's saying, but I can tell she just wants to be polite. Do you know that feeling when you just look at a child and think "I want to protect them forever"? That's what I felt. Instead of saying "Congrats, we're your parents now", all I can say is "Umm, nice to meet you girls. We might stop by later."
Emily's POV
What was I thinking, they're not gonna adopt us. The thought burns into my mind like a searing knife. A mixture of sadness and embarrassment washes over me. What did I do wrong? Did I talk too quickly? Did I seem that awkward? I just instead, slowly walk away, and go listen to some Wicked on my broken old iPod. After I've calmed down, I walk back, and they are all super excited. I'm confused. "What's going on?" I ask
"Em, this is the day we've been dreaming about for 6 years." Maya says
"No, wait, are you for real?" I say
"Yeah. That perfect family we saw is now our family." She says through tears
I start crying and almost fall over. This is what I've been waiting for. Forever.
