starfish

a thousand starfishes swam to your turquoise beach
I wish that we could kiss them each
lets dip our feet in ice cold waters again
if we build a fire for our sea friends
do you think they'll stay till the moon sets
the mountains hug our dreams somewhere
up north where the air smells of pine
and crows don't sing their happy lullabies
where you are mine
do you remember that summer in the butterfly garden where lilac lavender carpeted the soft soil
I washed your hair in damp sunlight
and you laughed
the starfishes waved at us when you bloomed and it was spring
forever was a short time
you were always mine
but we are here beneath these cold branches that bow over us
the moon told me you were beautiful
and the starfishes sang
our favorite love song
as we looked on towards the mountains lined with silver fairies
hymns echo through the night
and we fall asleep
forever
