The strains of a metal rock song woke me. Correction, startled me so hard that I felt my heart jump out of my chest. Okay that’s too much but you got the idea. I look at the digital clock next to my bed and it was 2 am. Did he know that he doesn’t own this whole building, fucking lunatic.
I took a deep breath, trying to find the last stock of my patience. I turn my body and covered my head and both of my ears with a pillow, trying to blocked the sound that created by the electric guitar. Instead of blocking the sound, it made me breathless. I finally gave up and walked out of my bedroom.
I thought about giving some lesson to that lunatic. But then I realize I only wearing a tight pink tank top with really short short and pluffy pink slippers. I didn’t look very tough, he probably gonna laugh at me. I didn’t really know it’s a he or a she or maybe there are more than one person. All of my sleepiness have vanished. I pull out the kitchen stool and sit facing the window.
Do you know your enemy?/ Do you know your enemy?/ Well, gotta know the enemy, wah hey.
Did he sing too? That song sounds familiar.
Violence is an energy/ Against the enemy/ Well, violence is an energy, wah hey.
Even though he disturb my sleep, I have to admit he has a very good voice. Too good to sing a song that rock. Suddenly I heard a snarl, Sydney’s snarl. Uh-oh.
“God damn it, do they know what time is it?” Sydney growled. She’s walking half asleep out of her bedroom with her brown hair all over the place and pissed off face. When she turned to the kitchen counter, she yelped. “Jesus Christ Jo! The hell you’re doing there in the dark?”
“Can’t sleep,” I simply answered.
“Ugh I’m gonna kill those bastards,” she said. She’s so pissed. I wish I have her amount of energy but my body know I’m not supposed to be awake at this hour.
“Chill Syd, they’re probably gonna be done any minute now. They’re not gonna play all night,” I said trying to calm her down before she completely lose it and beat them. Wait, them?
“They’re totally out of their minds. If they were singing John Legend’s or Ed Sheeran’s song it’ll be alright. But it’s green day’s song. At 2 o’clock in the morning,” she replied with increasing tone. Oh that’s why the song sounds familiar.
“Wait, is there more than one person playing?” I asked. Sydney just shrugged. She looks tired. I’m tired too.
“We must do something Jo, I can’t stand it any longer. I have to work tomorrow, and if I don’t get enough sleep someone gonna get killed,” Sydney said with a very serious tone. She’s joking, maybe not really but she’s joking about the killing part. After 6 years of knowing Sydney, I know one thing you can’t disturb her from. Her sleep. Unless you want to get punched and kicked right in the stomach. And yeah it hurts.
“What will we say? Sorry assholes, you kind of interupting our sleep, could you stop?” I said. Please note the sarcastic tone. “Do you think they’ll stop when we said that?”
“Maybe. If we don’t try we’ll never know,” she simply answered. The guitar playing and the singing got more louder. I look at Sydney with an unsure stare. “Seriously Jo, I don’t think they’ll be stoping anytime soon,” she said trying to reassure me.
“Okay fine. But you’re the one who’s talking, okay?”
“Okay. Come on,” she pulled me away from the stool.
