Anamarie had come to love the small town hospital.  The two nurses, Kate and Michelle, always sneak her something sweet for lunch.  She had finally gotten used to the hospital's crisp clean air, and the nice view from her hospital window was spectacular.  Even the doctor, Mr. Kaddens, checked on her regularly and always had a joke ready to spring on her.

It has been over a week now and Anamarie was almost fully recovered from the accident.  Of course, all good things had to come to an end.  Anamarie was already expecting her parents to come any day now.  She figured they were waiting on her to recover before coming to get her under a strange name of a relative and some disguise or sending someone in off the street they paid off.  They did this all the time if one of them would get sick enough to be in the hospital, which wasn't often.

Anamarie was gazing out the window with a smile on her face when she heard a little tap on the glass to her left.  Mr. Montgomery stood there as the doors slide open.  Anamarie's smile drooped.  "Miss Chappel.  I am happy to see you are doing so well.  The doctor just informed me you can leave tomorrow."

She glanced down at the bed.  "Yeah, he told me."

The man removed his cap and came over to sit next to her.  "Miss Chappel, with everything aside, I don't think your parents are coming.  We have arranged for a foster care to come take you for now."

"Foster care," Anamarie squeeked.  "But...but I have parents!  They will come get me, just wait."

Even as she said it, Anamarie knew he was right.  They would have come gotten her by now.  She began to feel herself tremble.  Alone.  She was alone.  "Miss Chappel," Mr. Montgomery cleared his throat.  "It's already been decided.  You have no relatives, so things had to be arranged.  A car from Button Bottoms's Orphanage will be here to take you to a nice home near Atlanta."

He stood and put his hat back on.  Anamarie reached out.  "Please!  My parents will come!  They have to come, I'm there daughter!"

The man had a pained look.  He patted her hand before shedding it away.  "We will be in touch, Miss Chappel."

She was so alone.  Scared tears began to fall down her cheeks.  She trembled and hugged herself.  She never felt more alone than right now!  She blinked the tears away before she just gave into the sob hanging inside her throat.  Even Doctor Kaddens's jokes couldn't cheer her up this time.
