Chapter 8

Today was the first day of senior year.  It was also Ian’s first day at our high school. It was bound to be an eventful day.

I wandered downstairs where Alice was making breakfast.  I had dressed up for the first day of school, but the rest of the year I would be in jeans and t-shirts most likely.  Today I was wearing a flowing, flowery sports skirt and a tank top that matched and coincided with the school’s dress code.  I could do archery in it because it was sports clothing, but weight lifting would be more strenuous so I’d packed a pair of gym clothes for that.

Xena and Lee were already down here, Nate wasn’t and I had left Ian upstairs when he said he was going to take a shower.  Both should be down within ten minutes.

“Are you ready for your first day of senior year?” Alice asked cheerfully as she dropped a plate of biscuits and gravy in front of me.

I nodded.  “I’m all set and ready to go,” I told her before digging into the food.  It was delicious.

“Archery, first thing!” Xena told me with a big smile.

“Or baking,” I teased Nate and he tossed a quick playful glare my way before shoving more food in his mouth. He hadn’t been able to switch into archery because the class was full and nobody was switching out of it.

Lee and Ian came down shortly after the rest of us finished eating and got their own plates of food.

“You boys ready for your first day of senior year?” Alice asked them as well.  I have a feeling she asked all of us that question when we came down.

They nodded and confirmed that they were both completely ready to start, and more importantly, finish senior year.

When it was time to go, Alice hugged us all, wished us luck and went to wake up Jason so he could have breakfast and start his day.

We didn’t have to wait for the bus.  We live five blocks from the school and walk every day.  If it’s a bad winter, sometimes Alice or Jason will drive us, but not unless the conditions are really bad.

Obviously, it’s still the end of summer, so we get to walk the five blocks to school.  It wasn’t too bad.  Xena and I were really pumped for archery so we were bouncing and happy while the boys laughed at us and tried to calm us down.

“Don’t you two know that you’re not supposed to be excited for school?” Lee asked us, shaking his head, but watching Xena in amusement.

“We aren’t excited for school,” Xena told him.  “Just archery.  We can hate the rest of the day if we want to.”
