Chapter 7
“What happened up there?” Ian asked me for the tenth time since Lee had taken Xena upstairs.
I raised an eyebrow at him and went back to watching tv. I’d already told him that what happened upstairs is going to stay between Xena and I as it was a girls day and that’s just not okay to share.
“Give it up, man,” Nate advised him. “She’s stubborn as a mule when she wants to be.”
Ian shook his head. “Girls.”
I gave him a warning glare and he held his hands up in surrender. I went back to watching tv. I couldn’t wait to hear what Xena had to tell me about what’s going on upstairs.
It was another half hour before Lee and Xena came back down, both wearing satisfied smiles on their faces. Obviously, something was accomplished upstairs.
Xena sat down while Lee said, “Layla, can I talk to you in the kitchen for a minute?”
I nodded, wondering what he wanted to talk to me about. I was expecting Xena to want to talk to me right away, not Lee. Still, I got up and followed him into the kitchen.
I sat next to him at the table and he smiled happily at me. “Xena and I were talking upstairs about a lot of stuff, but she told me what you did upstairs and I wanted to say thank you so much!” He laughed and hugged me. I did the same. “I didn’t think she liked me like that so I never acted on my feelings.”
I laughed again. “I think I had that figured out up in my room after Xena admitted that she liked you.”
He laughed too. “Well I’m glad you did.”
I gave him a stern look. “You be good to her, Lee. I’ll do very scary things to you if you hurt her.”
He nodded. “Best friend talk, I get it. What about me? Aren’t I a friend?” he teased.
I rolled my eyes at him. “If it’ll make you feel better, I’ll have the same talk with Xena.”
He laughed again. “I know you love us both.” He hugged me again and we headed back into the living room. I gave Xena a look that told her we’d be talking tonight. She smiled back at me.
“Training, anyone?” I asked with a smile.
Everyone groaned but stood up to leave. No one wanted to deal with Dylan if we were late. Even if Ian and I wouldn’t be training, Dylan would still probably find a way to punish us for being late. That’s just how awesome he is. Note the sarcasm.
