Chapter 4
Jayden
I take in a deep breath. I slide my red flannel off, dropping it onto the floor.
"You actually want to dance battle?" I ask, ready to press play.
"No I want to see what you can do," Ethan say, putting his hands up.
"Alright well, pretend to not watch because I'll mess up," I start, "and this routine is one I made up before I quit."
I quickly stretch my legs and back, loosening up.
"Alright," I whisper, pressing play. Ethan stands at the front, in the corner. I face the back, then turn around slowly.
The dance starts off slow, like a messy contemporary, then once the beat drops, it turns into hip hop.
Thankfully, I am wearing leggings, and a tight, sleeveless crop top. I have old school, red Vans on.
I push my hair back behind my shoulders, breathing heavily.
"Your turn," I joke, I look up at Ethan, noticing him holding his phone up.
I scream, turning around with my hands over my face. I hear him laugh, while he puts his phone away.
"Sorry, you're just a really good dancer," he says, taking my phone out and plugging his in.
"Let's see if you're better," I smirk, listening to some song start playing.
I tie my flannel around my waist, watching Ethan walk into the middle of the room.
The music starts, as he starts body rolling. I giggle to myself, as I pull my phone out to record him.
Somehow, he doesn't notice, and dances normally. The song talks about inappropriate behaviour, which makes me laugh.
Ethan drops to the floor, then starts grinding, I gasp. I felt myself looking at him in a completely different perspective.
"Alright I'm done," he chuckles, standing up.
"Not bad," I nod, secretly putting my phone away.
"I suppose it's only fair if we have a dance together," Ethan suggests, trying to find another song.
"I suppose," I agree, walking towards the middle of the floor. I feel my body become weaker, as a slow song plays quietly through the speaker.
He steps towards me, placing on hand on the middle of my back. I allow it, placing a hand on his buff shoulder.
"I don't know how to slow dance," we both admit at the same time. I laugh slightly, hearing his breathing quicken. I place my other hand on his other shoulder, as his other hand meets my back.
"So, what's your story?" he jokingly asks. I lift an eyebrow, then notice he's being serious.
"Well," I breathe out, "my name is Jayden Lee Rose, and I'm seventeen years old. I started photography when I was at least fourteen as a distraction. My father works all of the time. My mother is always out, no one really knows where. My brother is always an ass because he's getting into drugs," I laugh nervously, Ethan keeps his eyes on mine.
"What about you?" he asks, listening intently.
"I've been okay, I've gotten used to being alone. Sorry if I've been awkward," I apologise, looking around nervously.
"No don't be. I'm so awkward you have no idea. As soon as I'm not with Grayson, I just freak out," he owns up, I nod my head.
"You guys must be really close," I smile.
