A next month, on December 21, it was my birthday. The students that tried to over throw the Ministry got expelled from Hogwarts. However, that didn't stop the voices. Honestly, it's amazing how many secrets there are at Hogwarts... but none of them were as serious as the first secret.
I was always tired because the voices penetrated my skull whenever I tried to sleep. It was horrid. But hearing people's secrets were much worse. People's parents went to jail for horrible things or they will go to jail. Some committed crimes themselves... and some witnessed a crime but didn't know what to do... like me. By the time it was my birthday, I wanted to scream.
I got out of bed and numbly got ready for the day ahead. When I got the the Great Hall, I almost fell asleep while eating breakfast.
Romulus shook my shoulder. "Uh, are you okay?"
I looked blearily at him and said, "Oh yeah, just dandy," before almost face-planting into my oatmeal. Luckily, almost no one saw me because it was Christmas break. But the people who did see me, laughed.
"Hey, Wolfe, is your big head finally getting too heavy for your neck to hold it up?" A Slytherine yelled.
I rolled my eyes. "Well, Smith, I see that your brain is still the size of a walnut."
Sampson Smith's lip curled. "Watch yourself Wolfe..." he walked away.
"What a nice guy," I muttered. Romulus looked at me with a faint smile on his face.
"C'mon," Romulus stood up. "I have something for you for your birthday."
I followed Romulus up the steps to the common room. When we got inside, Romulus handed me a big bundle. I pulled off the cover. A baby hippogriff stared at me with sleepy eyes. I squealed. "Oh my gosh! Romulus, where did you get it?"
Romulus leaned over my shoulder and petted the hippogriff. "That is a secret. What are you going to name the little guy?"
I smiled. "Jinx."
"Perfect," Romulus smiled back. I ran over to him and hugged him. He looked surprised but then he wrapped his arms around me.
"Thank you," I whispered.
"Well, what are you going to do now?"
I shrugged. "I don't know... show him to Hagrid?"
"Can I come?" Romulus asked.
"Sure."
So we went to Hagrid's hut on the edge of the Forbidden Forest. When I asked Hadgrid if he could keep Jinx for me, he laughed. "O corse! I used ta have one o these meself!" Hagrid looked fondly at Jinx. "And what did you say his name is?"
"Jinx," I said, pulling my coat tighter around me.
"Well, I'll be taking Jinx now before we all freeze out here," Hagrid said while bowing to Jinx and then taking him into his arms.
"Thank you Hagrid," I said.
Romulus and I started walking towards the castle. "Wasn't it nice of Hagrid to take Jinx?" I asked. Romulus didn't reply. I spun around and saw he wasn't there. "Romulus? ROMULUS!!!" I screamed and got no reply.
