(Ray is standing over Chris who is sleeping. A few twigs and sticks surrond them both on the floor, along with a few leafs, still green and living. Some roll mats lay opposite each other, in which Chris lays on one of them, half in the sleeping bag.)
Ray: Chris... wake up... (shakes him) Chris!
(Narrator enters from the right) Narrator: Chris wake up. (He does)
Chris: huh!? Yeah... what?
Ray: We should get going, its like 10 am... (steps away from Chris) can I ask you something?
Chris: Let me guess (Starts to get up slowly, and mimicks) "Why the fuck did we say to walk all the way there?" (stretches)
Ray: Yeah... that exactly.
Chris: Well, because i wanted to make it feel more like a journey. (sits down on his roll mat)
Ray: Chris, with all due respect... (Chris looks around) It wouldn't hurt us to catch a ride.
Chris: WIth all due respect; I think we should go get something to eat.
Ray: I agree. Where were you thinking?
Chris: I have no clue.
Narrator: There's a hotel with a resturant about 10 miles north.
(Chris looks at the Narrator, confused as hell and then turns to Ray who didnt even acknowledge the Narrators existance. There's a long pause and Ray and Chris keep on looking at each other. Chris confused, Ray looking normal)
Ray: Cool! What are we waiting for?
(Chris looks at the Narrator)
Chris: Nothing.... nothing.
Ray: okay so.. can we go?
Chris: Yeah... I dont see why not. Lets pack up.
(They do)
Ray: Chris...
Chris: (Exhausted) What?
Ray: What sort of cancer is it?
Narrator: Stop. (Everything appears to freeze) He deserves to know. You and I both know that this is the right thing to do. (Goes towards Chris. He knows he can hear him) Otherwise how do you know that he is going to stick with you for the rest of this supposed 'journey'. Let me ask you this; what does this 'journey'... mean to you? What does 'Her' mean to you? then question yourself. Why did he agree to do this for you? Now.... Answer him.
Go.
(Pause)
Chris: lung cancer.
Narrator: Go on.
Chris: That means i have a matter of months. I think atleast
Narrator: Go on.
Chris: I don't want to waste these last few months doing the same thing over and over.
Narrator: Go on.
Chris: (goes towards Ray) I need you to do me a favor. I need you, to be my eyes and ears, my voice and muscles.
Narrator: Go on.
Chris: Because I'm not getting stronger any time soon.
Narrator: Go on.
Chris: Because sooner or later i won't be able to... erm....
Narrator: Go on-
Chris: (louder. Points his finger to Narrator to shut him up) -because i'm paranoid that when i get to her, I'll realise that im as alone as i am now than when i started.
Ray: Why...
Chris: ...Because I'm afraid ...
(Ray approaches Chris trying to look capable. He stands in front of him. Straightens his back.)
Ray: Believe me; i know. (smiles) Don't worry. I was gonna do that anyway.
