"And that's how I ended up here," Russetfire purred, his scar on his back paw in sight. The kittens stared at him in awe.
"You liked another tom?" Whitekit asked curiously. Russetfire nodded.
"What was it like?" a dilute calico, Sunkit, questioned. Russetfire thought about how he was going to answer that.
"It was great- all the she-cats wanted me and I didn't have to choose!" he replied humorously. The kittens laughed.
A white she-cat poked her head in and looked down at the kits.
"Lunchtime!" she said. Three mice hung in her jaws. "Is this their first time?" Russetfire asked.
The mother nodded. He looked down at his kits with joy. "You're going to love it."
He smiled as they scampered off, but one kit, a dark ginger tom like him, stayed where he was.
"Next time, can you tell us the story of how you met our mother?"
Russetfire watched the white she-cat go, remembering all the times they had in their youth.
"Of course," he nuzzled his head. The kitten smiled and hopped away.
Perhaps Fennelshade did some good after all. . .
