I had fallen asleep, there in the sun. I know I did, and I'm awake now, but I haven't opened my eyes yet.
I take a deep breath first, reassuring me that we were still outside. My arm were still over my eyes, and I could feel Jakes fur underneath my other hand.
I move my arm away and open my eyes. I expected it to still be light outside. But it was dark. How long have I been asleep? The moon was bright above us. Directly in the middle of the sky, shining down into this clearing.
I sit up, and see Jake with his head on my lap, asleep. He was so cute. Just like a giant puppy. I'm sure he's suppose to be so intimidating but like this, laying on my lap, eyes closed and face rested, he was adorable.
I rub my fingers through his fur, and watch as his eyes snap open.
"Oh.. I'm sorry if I woke you up." I whisper.
I quickly look around me and see nobody else. I suppose they all left. I hope they're all safe and that nothing happened to them..
Jake shook his head back and forth,
"No? I didn't wake you up? Well something did and I'm kinda the only moving thing."
He just looked at me, and closed his eyes again, taking a deep breath.
"Wait, were you even asleep?"
He exhaled loudly.
"Oh my god! You stayed awake this whole time? Why didn't you wake me up?"
I quickly reach into my pocket, pulling out my phone.
It was midnight.
"Jake..we should probably go home.." I whisper. I feel like if I speak too loud, I'll disrupt the peace of the woods.
He stands up and stretches. I giggle, and he rolls his eyes. I hope I get used to dogs rolling their eyes.
He begins walking back towards the creek, so I get up and follow.
I meet with him at the edge. The water seemed to calm down. Like it was sleeping too. I began to cross it. It only came up to my knees and the currents weren't strong. Jake walked along beside me. His legs becoming soaking wet.
After, we just keep waking straight through the woods. I was fine taking my time to get back, as long as we got back. But I couldn't handle the silence. It's killing me.
"So like, when you're like this, are you actually you?"
He just looks at me.
"I mean, obviously you're you. But are you, you?"
Nothing. Ha, what did I expect?
"Either you're tired or wolf you is a jerk."
He stops, turning towards me.
"What? You could atleast react to what I say! I mean, I know I can hear you guys speak! So why aren't you talking to me?"
His jaw tenses up and he just begins walking, a bit faster this time.
I speed up.
"Thanks." I mumble.
We walked for about 10 minutes, me getting more frustrated by the minute, but not saying anything.
Soon, I see the building. And speed up, ahead of Jakes pace, and reach there faster. I start gathering up clothing that he would fit in and by the time he reached the door way, I had layed it on the table.
"Change. Please." I sigh.
He walks inside and I immediately turn around. I'm not sure I enjoy watching the changing process.
