“I LOVE that dress on you!!!” I screamed loudly as soon as Zeni exited the bathroom. I smiled wildly at her as I took in the fitted garment in a cream and matching wedged heels. My attention briefly flicked over to The Big Bang Theory playing on her bedroom television and giggled as Sheldon said: “To amend the words of Toy Story, you have not got a friend in me.”
“I love your outfit too, Harls, you is rocking that skirt, girl!” Zeni complimented, winking in my direction. I laughed at her jokey flirtation then turned back to the mirror to reapply my mascara and finish off by adding a coat of scarlet lipstick to my lips. “So, do you know where the guys are taking us tonight?”
“No,” I ruffled my hair and ran a hand through my parting. “They said they’re going to pick us up at around 7:00, which is...” I glanced at my watch, “In about 10 minutes.”
Zeni toddled over to the mirror, over the littered floor of stray clothes and shoes, and unscrewed the lid off her mascara. “I’m a bit nervous though. This is only the second time me and Dillon are going out and I just don’t want anything to go weird.”
“Why would it?” I asked, walking over to the bed and grabbing out a pair of skin coloured tights.
“I don’t know... We were mates before and now were dating, I just don’t want it to all go wrong,” Zeni said, pausing mid brush stroke to look at me in the mirror.
“It won’t, Zen, I promise you.” I went over to her and clasped her shoulder behind her as she looked in the mirror. “Repeat after me: I will not be nervous.”
“I will not be nervous.” She muttered quietly.
“I can’t hear you!” I shouted.
“I will not be nervous,” she repeated a little louder than before.
“I. Can’t. Hear. You!!!!” I screamed.
“I WILL NOT BE NERVOUS!!!!” She screamed back at me.
“Wooohoooo!!! Nothing to worry about,” I chuckled and stepped into my heels with a platform wedge underneath the toe. “Good stuff, you ready?”
“Almost,” Zeni smirked over at me. “You ever thought about being one of those group motivators for dieters or the homeless?”
“I’m not sure I’ve got the right kind of attitude to be a hobo motivator, they annoy me too much,” I winked over at her and she laughed.
“And why’s that?”
“I don’t like people who waste opportunities. Many a hobo has the chance to improve their lives but instead, it’s as though they need everyone else to do it for them, and I’m not sure that’s the kind of thinking motivational speakers should be having for hobos,” I shrugged, then opening the closet door, I ip-dip-doed the two jackets I had and picked out the leather one.
“Bit harsh, but a bit true as well.” Zen conceded and grabbed her jacket and bag as the doorbell rang downstairs.
“That’s them,” I said and we scuttled out of my room.
As we walked down the stairs, Zeni asked out of the blue, “So what’s going on with you and Xavier then?”
“How do you mean?”
“Well... have you done the nasty?”
“I cannot not believe you just asked me that,” I gulped out like a fish over my shock.”
“You’ve been together for a while now, I was just wondering what the story was,” Zeni smirked at me and nudged me.
“For you information, me and Xavier have kept it very proper,” I joked, haughtily sticking my nose in the air.
